Prime, Wil-Trans, Jim Palmer, Henderson, all connected in some way. I don't like Primes tiny trucks, ie. lightweights, you have to take the passenger seat out if you want a refrigerator.
Indentured Servitude or $6,000?

That is worthy of consideration. I had not heard of them prior to Chinatowns comment.

In my opinion, Henderson has about the best deal going right now.tommymonza Thanks this.

Not all there is, but for greenhorns without 18 (or 14) wheels, not a bad place to start. And from my understanding, Landstar and Mercer are O/O only I think (emphasis on think). Good companies, and if you go that route I would add Sammons to the mix as I hear they are good as well, just need to run O/O.

ttpyb, I do have some concerns about running through training in a herd, and although I have never driven a semi, I did drive a 20 yard dump pulling a tandem, and an old Euclid R50 that you had to take both hands off the wheel to shift since the linkage was trashed (that was a beast to drive). I have a lot to learn, and am not dismissing that, but I expect I have a little head start on the herd.

I guess it would depend on how the reimbursement works. Let's say company sponsored training takes a year contract to pay back or there is a limit for outside schooling.
There's another thing. You sign a contract for company sponsored and you leave, you owe them.
But if you paid out of pocket you just lose reimbursement. I think I read where some companies will buy out/pay off another companies contract. I don't know much about that.
Your first company could be great and you stay for awhile. Then you wished you would have took their training with no out of pocket expense.
Or
You hate your first company or you hate driving period. Owing them money for training you may never use would further the pain of disappointment. Guess either way you will pay if you quit early or something happens.
However, either way you pay if you can tough it out and recoup costs then the above is irrelevant. -
I definitely agree on that. I just checked the Schneider website and they reimburse up to $6,000 at $150 a month after your first 30 days. Employment must start within 4 months of receiving your CDL.
Reimbursement would be nice, but I'd also be happy with a carrier that just pays decent and treats me well. -
If they re-imburse you than you can't claim it on your taxes?
-
In that case, first year will be $1650. Then each year after is $1800. After 2 years that's only $3450. You would have to stay 3-4 years to recoup costs unless you found a super cheap school.Last edited: Jan 15, 2016

I have never worried about write-offs too much. If I need a write-off, I always find enough to lower my tax bill.
