The purpose is not to control us independents but more of a collaboration of ideas, to help better our industry. Each of us have different approaches as to how to succeed in our business. A few of us are doing as you say, myself included, but many more are running their business's the wrong way. I envision this group as a place for independents new and old to aide each other with connections to improve our bottom lines and eliminating the word backhaul altogether.

Reminds me of an old saying. "Herding truck drivers is like herding cats". Most of us small guys are fiercely independent. And most of our knowledge has been paid for in blood. I know any of my "connections" will forever stay secret. I wouldn't mind bouncing ideas off other people but it wouldn't ever be in a internet setting. It would be more harm than good with the lowlife brokerages that are already spying on here.
powerhousescott, CanadianVaquero and truckon Thank this. -
I agree. I'm merely a company driver thus far, but I want to be an o/o in the next year. I want to do so because I am an independent person. My "trade" outside of trucking is cowboying. I remember a few years ago someone brought up trying to organize the ranchers so they could quit getting screwed on beef prices. Problem is, like truckers, ranchers are ranchers because we love the independence and not relying on or being controlled by anyone other than thr government and our customers.

So far the independent carriers that have been coming to our conference calls have been sharing ideas with one another. We are all surprised at what we are learning from each other, nobody has given up any of their secret connections. This is why we started our group so that we could bounce ideas off of each other without worrying about brokers or shippers looking or listening in. So far it has been a good experience for all of us small carriers in the bulk arena. We actually have some dry van, reefer, and flat bed carriers joining in now as well. I find it interesting that we each have knowledge to improve our industry, and that we can improve it by working with each other instead of against each other.Old Iron Thanks this.
