Looks that way. It's amazing to me O/O's will bend over backwards to develop relationships with brokers but are standoff-ish about networking with other O/O's. They readily accept shelling out $40/month for a board that gives them loads with bad and incomplete info, but to join a free service where they might have to do a little themselves. Well, we can't have that ! Apparently, it's not the brokers and shippers trying to get in your pocket, it's the other owner/operators. sheesh !, it's just kind of a shame. I'll check out Stu Sutton.

I think its a great idea, but most people fear the unknown.

danny it seems to be a good idea but the problem is trust in each other and we all know about that. I had an example today and have had it happen many times before. I was talking to a broker that I work with regularly who said that she really needed a truck for a Jackson,Ms to Houston,tx load and was not finding it easily. Of course if I knew of someone I would have given her a number or called them myself. But,I did not know of anyone in the area. With your plan I could have listed the load and possibly helped both parties at the same time.
Maybe if we keep discussing the idea it could somehow catch on with a few people and then see how it goes.

That's the key. Trust is everything. With Sylectus it is there as a given none of the TQL games. So these brokers would largely be unknowns but you have to start from somewhere and really a lot of times you can just tell what kind of broker you're dealing with through the course of a conversation anyways.

Honestly, you guys are right about trust. Also, I think it takes somebody with a lot more leadership skills than me to put something like this together. I was just thinking about the mechanics of it. setting up a list-server, or enlisting my buddy to develop some apps or a website or whatever.

The problem is, someone will take this idea and wrap it in a slick package with a good sales pitch on it and O/O's will shell out $50/month to be part of it with no say in the matter. What I was offering was a free service with the O/O's in control. But I can see now it's kind of a naive idea.

I'm also starting to realize that when certain O/O's talk about "business skills" that basically means cozying up to a few brokers and believing they are getting some kind of preference from them. Which is likely just a load of b.s. from the broker, but if you can sell b.s. in the free market I guess it's all fair play.

you're right, people are in acceptance of the status quo, but tend to be cynical of new ideas. A good example is there were some companies who looked at installing treadmill workstations in place of office chairs. Well, it turns out these treadmills produce some back problems among a very small amount of people. Many of the companies decided not to offer the standing treadmill workstations because of this. But what they didn't look at was all the positive benefits of the treadmills vs. all the negative aspects of the standard desk chair. And an independent research agency found that the overall improvement in health and well-being of employees with the stand and walk workstations was greater despite the small amount of back problems. Sorry, kind of off topic.

I utilize a contact that any additional freight that they have they will send out a mass email...I mean its got to be 100 carriers on this list (one day im going to hit reply all just to screw with everybody)...anyway....here is the thing .... When that email comes out you got about 30 good seconds to respond or the load is gone, wich is not bad but when I am on the road its annoying...I have my phone set to check email every 5 min between 6a and 5p....I have my ipad open and running through the stero speakers so I can hear incoming messages and I still miss some...when Im at home its cool cause I can see it and respond quick but every now and then email at 255 and the load came out at 251...well somebody at home or at their desk has got it....

Now I said all that to say this can be seen as a disadvantge in a lot of o/o eyes...because Im giving to the system, participating doing my part to pass along some good loads...but I continue to fall short in the "getting back" part....maybe because I dont get email quick on a slow server, live in a bad area with choppy reception, running in the woods, give up loads out of my area but when I get to AL or NC still get nothing...thn guys start to get discouraged...buddy up (well im only gonna tell 3or 4 in the group) etc....

i think its an idea with tons of potential...but I alo believe, human nature, greed, and a general lack of the overall picture by some "one track minded" carriers will make it difficult to achieve

So, is the whole idea dead in the water??? I've had some offers today for loads I can't cover. One from Ms. to Va. Refrigerated, decent pay. Might be just right for one of you out there but I have no way of knowing you're there.

I'm rethinking the whole thing. Maybe it would work better for people to post truck availability rather than loads. If I happen to be working on load boards at the time I wouldn't mind looking a little for somebody else. Or if I happen to know a good broker with loads in the area I might not mind sending a phone number. But again, it seems people will focus on the shortcomings of something new. While they simply accept the shortcomings of whatever current system they are using. And I really have no interest in becoming a salesman for something like this. I know how to sell things, and I could make a lot more money doing it than owning this truck, I simply have no interest in it. If someone else wants to try something along these lines, please count me in. I'm just the wrong guy to lead it I guess.

That's what we sometimes do within Farm2Fleet. If Bill tells me a particular area a truck may be I sometimes can hook them up with a reload out of there but it's sporadic at best for now. This is not a bad idea all you need to know is where trucks are going to be a day in advance then if you saw something or heard about something good you could put them in contact.... Sometimes when driving it can be cumbersome that's what makes it so sporadic. Maybe if I didn't have to earn a living for myself I could dispatch trucks but I'll starve if I sit here and do that all day every day...
