Here I sit again. Another week very little miles. Can't hold out much longer. 255 mile weekend run. $80. for 2 1/2 days. Great load planning here at Indian River transport. Just enough to avoid paying any layover pay.
Someone stated there are drivers at IRT over 20 years. well there are 5. Four are between the ages of 66-72 and wish they could make a move. The other keeps looking but hopes things will improve. There are 22 with 10 years and some of them have quit and come back and have been given their previous time back. We think things will improve and hope they will but it doesn't look like it.
The office slogan seems to be " This would be a great place to work if it wasn't for those dang truck drivers!" They have forgotten on who's backs this company was founded.Drivers are a "dime a dozen" and now we have "dime a dozen drivers" In the past 3 years we've gone from first to worst.A friend of mine has been asking to get home for over a month now and they still haven't got him home, going on 3 months out. With the new hold them out policy, It's going to get worse. But hey I just got a brand new Pete to sit in a few weeks ago.:biggrin_25514:

For those thinking of joining Indian River, here are some facts you need to know.
    1. Starting pay is .24c/ml + .08c per ml cost of living expense = .32c/ml.
How dose this affect you? If you get hurt on the job your compensation is based on .24c/ml not .32c/ml. Same as applying for a mortgage or any other credit. Worse yet if your building for social security it too is based on .24c/ml. not your full income.

    2. Miles are unreliable and fluctuate.

    3. You don't get layover pay until after 48 hrs and then it's $50. If you wait at a customer to load/unload 24 or 36 or more hours, it's your loss, detention and layover pay is rare. And even then you'll have a fight on your hands.

    4. 2003 was the last per mile raise, however you always hear "were working on that!"

But you may get to drive a new pete? It's not a bad place to work as I hear drivers say.:biggrin_25510:

The company I was working for laid me off and went bankrupt. Started there in May 2009 and was there until two weeks ago. I don't particularly enjoy coming home from the road (too much drama and BS to deal with) so if a dispatcher doesn't want to send me home then that's fine by me. Put me in one of those new Petes and send me on my way. I've been home two weeks (I live 25 miles from the WH yard according to google maps) and I can't wait to get away from here.

I'm looking into Bynum as well, out of Auburndale, FL....seems like the only stuff from Florida that ever goes west of the mississippi river is in a tanker...if I had a dollar for every time I've been up and down 75 and 95 in the last 3 years I'd have enough to buy my own truck and pay cash for it.
