I have TWIC and hazmat and they really aren't worth what I paid for them. We don't do many hazmat loads so it's not like you will be losing out on a noticeable amount loads.
Also, on more than one occasion I have had to take a hazmat load from the yard the last 60 miles to the receiver for a live unload. That winds up killing a day and extra hourly pay they tack on doesn't make up for it.

This is one of the best forums on TTR and it's what more of them should strive to be. No petty bickering, no macho posturing, no kvetching of any kind really, just questions asked and answered with a lot of good information.
Many thanks.lual, Nashville, Gearjammin' Penguin and 10 others Thank this. -
I only did one hazmat load when I worked there before and it was only a hundred miles or so. I only got it because I was the only driver available in the area that could do it. I was just thinking of adding it back to expand future jobs if I wanted to.Speed_Drums and Redtwin Thank this.

What's the tank wash situation on your specific run back to Hartley?

When I worked here in 2014 they had a lot of the Internationals and a few Freightliners along with the narrower cab Petes. They flew me to Phoenix to recover an International someone had abandoned. I was originally going to turn it into Clovis and get back in my truck, but I took a liking to the wider cab interior and the larger cabinets and asked if I could just keep it since it was vacant/abandoned. They let me, and I liked it better than the Pete I had at that time.
Now that we have this model Peterbilt, I wouldn’t want the International. I liked the way the older Petes looked on the outside, but it was pretty narrow walking between the seats into the sleeper. The ones we have now don’t have that issue.RussianBearTruckeR, Flattop23, Speed_Drums and 1 other person Thank this. -
I let my hazmat drop off when I moved to Texas and transferred my CDL in 2018. I was all excited when I first got it, but ended up having no use for it. I tried crude oil for a very short time. I didn’t enjoy wearing fire retardant clothes, a hard hat, setting cones up near the bumper, or having a safety man peeping Tom down the road from the tank batteries with a pair of binoculars as I was trying to dodge rattlesnakes and wild hogs in the middle of the night.Last edited: Mar 1, 2023

that's not an endorsement. it's a separate card. However yes you do have to pay to renew it.

I like the Pete 579. Plenty of room, smooth ride and the Cummins engine pulls hard, if only they hadn't messed with the automatic. I am having an issue changing out of 4th and I don't think know how to fix it yet.
Wouldn't mind if they got some of the new Cascadias or Volvos to try out.Tanker_82 Thanks this.
