Not much is new for me. I’m in Memphis tonight. I pickup here and head to Modesto, California.
The subject of unloading has been discussed on here over the years, and I’ve always explained that the employees at our customers do everything for us - with the exception of us having to open the dome lid from time to time if they have a “no climb” policy. Last week, I encountered a facility in Middlefield, OH where that is not the case. I felt like I should mention it in case anyone delivers there.
When you arrive, you will scale yourself in outside and then pull up to whichever door has a green light. I was told to let myself in by raising the door on my own. The bays are two truck lengths long. If your’s is empty, pull in to the front section so someone else can utilize the one behind you.
You will walk your paperwork into the office and type in your BOL information on a desktop computer. Afterward, you will take a red sample bottle and the long spoon to the top of your tank. I was told to dunk it in and out 20 times. On the 21st time, stick it in as deep as you can without touching the milk, then fill the sample bottle. You will write your info on the bottle in magic marker before placing it in a bank teller style suction tube.
Once you’ve done that, the computer screen will show when your sample has cleared and you can begin hooking the hose up to offload. You will also install the round jet connection in your top to wash yourself out. It’s a process, and you will have to have someone there help you the first time, as there are some buttons that require pressing and things have to be done in a certain order. It’s not that bad, so don’t be intimidated of it. It’s also a quick process (1.5 hours or so). The downside is you probably won’t see an employee at the facility the entire time, and the person who helps you will be one of the other drivers in a neighboring bay. It’s the only facility I’ve ever experienced anything like that at.
There is room to park overnight if you need to. It’s Amish country, too, so be mindful of that when you’re on the two lanes getting to it. I saw several buggies after dark on the highway.
Hope it helps.
