The tank washes I normally go to are in NY, NJ and DE as that is the area I normally run in. OJs in Kearny NJ has a nice driver lounge, but that one is a drop and hook so I am never there more than a few minutes. It's never up to the driver as to which tank wash to use, unless I suppose you just need a place to park and want to sneak in and hope no one asks if you are there to get washed.
Only recently have I been given loads with plenty time on them. A few months ago I was still being dispatched on loads that were already days late before I even hooked to them.

The long runs are there but my preference has always been the short runs that keep me in the NE. I have been offered loads from Newark NJ, to British Columbia, CA and asked for something shorter that will keep me on the east coast. The reason for that is I would rather the short Canada loads that would pay over $1 per mile when the border crossing pay was factored in. There has however been a sharp downturn in Canada loads so I find myself running further and further west so I may have to start running longer miles if things don't pick up.Speed_Drums, Loudstacks and Nashville Thank this.

I was trying to be able to sneak in
I can understand wanting to stay in the area closer. I run the complete opposite. I prefer the longer routes due to the fact I know for a couple days I can run 700 miles a day. Hope to run into you sir, would be good to meet y'all.Speed_Drums, xlsdraw, Tanker_82 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I haven't had a load like that yet honestly. Does that mean you end up with zero possibility of detention?Redtwin Thanks this.

your trips are all under 500 miles? emphasizing the 8 hour day comment? I preferably run recaps and aim for 430-525/day but its always the customers appt window that dictates how a driver runs plus adjustments made for the unexpected (heavy traffic, accidents, weather, sudden road closures, etc...) & yes always check my routes during pretrip ahead of time & if familiar with the route/area know the time of day when #### hits the fan with normal congestion ;(P

no runs into Mexico?

Detention, or I should say, regularly paid detention is relatively new. When I first started you could pretty much not expect to get it at all.
Those particular juice loads were to a regular customer and were either a very quick live unload or drop and hook, so there wouldn't be any chance of detention on them anyway.Last edited: Jun 24, 2023
Nashville Thanks this. -
If you are ever headed to Bensalem, let me know and I will see if I will be around. I'm usually there a few times per week.
Whenever I am in Winter Haven it's usually because I am heading home so I don't hang around the terminal any longer than it takes to throw my stuff in my car. There have been occasions recently where I have passed through as I seem to be getting more FL loads now that Canada has died down.Nashville Thanks this. -
Not that I know of. Any juice from Mexico is usually brought up to TX and we take it from there.Loudstacks Thanks this.

Long coast to coast trips usually have a lot of extra time on them. I have loaded Cranberry juice in Quebec bound for Walla Walla or California that has anywhere from 5-7 days on them. I don't deliver them though. We have a drop lot in Champlain NY or I bring them down to the terminal in Bensalem for someone who likes big miles.Speed_Drums, Nashville, Tanker_82 and 2 others Thank this.
