Not me, I am firmly in the "Don't wanna do more for the same money" camp.

Well, with how you kinda stay in the Northeast I don't blame you.

I prefer the manual except in heavy stop and go traffic.

People will probably think I'm insane but I actually still prefer a manual in traffic. The automatic shifts back and forth between gears too much and won't hold a gear in traffic and it gets on my nerves.

    RockinChair Thanks this.

Does your auto have a manual mode active that you can set it in to stop that from happening?

It does, but manual mode in this truck only makes it hold the current gear. So when I do need it to change I have to turn manual off and hope it goes for the gear I wanted and then turn manual mode back on if I wanna then hold that gear. At that point, why not drive a manual?

    Nashville Thanks this.

Oh that sounds irritating. Every one I've ever driven has allowed you to use the manual buttons to change gears in manual mode.

    drvrtech77 and Tanker_82 Thank this.

I use my manual mode a lot when I’m loaded. I use it in truck stop parking lots when I’m U-turning or creeping around looking for a place to park. I use it when I’m going across the scale at weigh stations, pulling inside a bay at customers, and things like that, too. If I’m descending a 5% or 6% grade, I usually get it down into 10th gear and lock it in with the button until I get to the bottom. With a locked in 10th and level 3 on the engine brake, I rarely have to touch the pedal in mine. Sometimes, I lock mine in when I’m cruising across California where the speed limit is 55 and a person has to tap the brake on every little hill to avoid coasting into a 10+ over ticket. The up and downshifting in that state gets annoying. It gives a reminder beep every few seconds, but the stereo volume muffles it. My truck is a 2021. I can manually upshift mine with the paddle until it gets to 8th gear. After that, I have to put it in auto. The button will only allow me to lock it in the higher gears, not shift it manually (as freely) in those.

Most companies are just getting the automated transmissions and not fine tuning them specifically for the tanker application. There's different shift points available depending on what you're doing. The tanker shift profile has programming that will make the transmission shift gears quicker to combat the surge. I'm no expert on it but, I'm sure that someone that knows more can chime in.
