Last night I dropped a dirty tank at the tank wash in Avondale, AZ. When I unhooked and walked around to thump the tires and make sure everything looked ok, I noticed the passenger side turn signals weren’t flashing in either position. (side arrow and rear) I did have signals on the tractor itself, though.
My next assignment had me bobtailing a few hundred miles away to pickup a preloaded tank that delivers in Florida. I could tell by the tank number on the Qualcomm that it was a fairly new one. So, I decided to wait and see if they would flash on that one when I got there before sending an email to breakdown about the dropped tank. I had a suspicion it was tractor-related. Come to find out, it was. When I hooked up to the newer one, I had no signal on the passenger side in either position.
If anyone else encounters this on a 579 like mine, the fuse location is under the hood. It’s a 20 AMP Mini Fuse and will be marked as “J4” in the fuse box. On the diagram it is marked “J4 20A SCM F7.”

Even though my company gives us replacement fuses, I still carry that with me. Just in case they don’t give me the right one.Friend, nextgentrucker, Knucklehead and 2 others Thank this. -
I highly recommend carrying an extra Mega Fuse, too. These are mounted inside the battery box. When you lose one, you’re completely finished, anytime, anywhere, crossing a set of railroad tracks, pulling across two lanes of traffic to make a left turn onto a 4-lane highway, or anywhere else. The entire truck will go off the grid when this pops.
I had it happen at the Loves in Prosser, WA a few years ago. Fortunately, I was safely in the parking lot. They didn’t sell them in the store or inside the service shop. I ended up walking a half mile or so to O’Reilly Auto Parts to buy one. My power inverter had beeped when I was making coffee. So, I got out to tighten the battery terminal nuts since they had a tendency to loosen up in my previous truck. When I was inside the box, I had the bad idea to reach up and snug the nuts on the Mega Fuse while I was at it. That was a bad move and caused it to blow. On the bright side, I learned how serious it can be when these go bad. I bought three of them that day and keep them with my other spares.Friend, Rugerfan, nextgentrucker and 3 others Thank this. -
I had the big mega go bad up state Ny of course I was loaded and going up hill in the middle of nowhere got it over to side of the road and parked no flashers no CB just dead found the issue and was able to bypass the fuse until I got to Winter Haven also grabbed a spare for the road no truck stop carry’s these fuses.
Friend, Tanker_82, Knucklehead and 1 other person Thank this. -
