I think they’re targeted more, because it’s easier to get into in comparison to buying a tractor/trailer and becoming an owner op. It doesn’t require as much operating capital. It’s easier to drive (and easier to teach someone to drive) a one-ton dually/gooseneck trailer, etc. From DOT’s perspective, the likelihood of a hot shot truck being illegitimate, not being compliant, etc. is probably higher than it is a regular semi. I might be wrong on that, but it’s always been my assumption for why they get picked on so much. I had to honk and flag one down on 495 in Washington DC last month, because he had about 10 foot of ratchet strap tail dangling off each side and flapping against his trailer tires.

I drove past the Clovis yard earlier tonight. From the highway looks like y'all have a nice facility there.

Is that restaurant next to the Love's any good?

I last ate at Cooks Cafe(that diner by the Love's) back in 2019. They got some pretty good portions for the price. But that may or may not have changed since the 'demic. I mean some may call it pricey, but I do recall getting a good sized NY strip there for like $20. I only got that since I was going to be sitting at the DFA Portales facility all night.

We used to have a 24 hour washbay. But our corporate cut that back in 2020 as well. If there's no clean tanker to grab, then you got to wait til the morning.

The yard looks nice with fresh paving and a newish building, but the actual driver facilities are dire. One restroom, but no shower or laundry.

That's still a shocker to me. Drove for Swift and Western Express in the Before Times and I remember them having showers and laundry at their facilities.

Welp... I didn't think I was gonna get an inspection before I bounce, but got one today in Kentucky I-65N, they were pulling trucks in left and right... I don't know what level it is but I'm glad I pass and I hope this will be my last LOL!!!

Good job passing a level 1 @nextgentrucker . Make sure you inform your company. Some companies will give you a bonus for a passed inspection.

Friend, Lonesome, hotrod1653 and 2 others Thank this.
