Exactly! They've been taking truckers rights since 1990, I had no reason to believe theyd stop anytime soon so I turned it in.

That was my first ticket too 3 yrs ago.Dont take it lightly.
You could have some bad luck, and get another one,or even
a third in a short period of time.
You can become unhirable in a short period.Maybe appear in
court, and plea it down with no points.
In Atlanta, you can show up for court, pay lane infraction
fine,and no points on license.
I wish ya luck, but don't just roll over. You may need that cushion
back sooner,than later.My 2 cents

Let's face it. This sort of violation is petty nonsense but you know how these state officials think. Safety safety where there's not a safety issue. It's about control. Can't trust us to do the right thing. If these lazy and inconsiderate 4-wheelers would move over then things would be better.
You have to assume the cop had him on camera but that wouldn't deter me. Don't assume that you will be found guilty. I've got off hopeless cases. Case dismissed, so don't just lie down and pay the fine.
It's all about fighting the ticket.
It's just another game to be played out and you do it to protect yourself and your CDL.
Good luck. -
Were you passing, avoiding a dangerous situation or just strolling along in the wrong lane?
If you were in the lane for safety reasons they might be a bit cordial and lower the charge.
Southbound on 294 in Illinois where 290 joins, I will take the third lane often. But it is only for about a 1/4 or half mile and I am slowing down for merging and exiting idiots. Then right back in the truck lanes.

Indianapolice (or Indianapolis) makes all of their money from pulling over truckers. One day I saw about eight trucks pulled over within a 10 minute timespan. That is the only place to be extra careful.
-
I've very very rarely seen a local leo pull over a big truck. It's the troopers in the area.

I got a speeding ticket driving my new car too fast one night last year, and my attorney got it dropped from 25 mph over the speed limit down to 3 mph over the speed limit, which made me happy. I really did not want that kind of ticket on my CDL record, so I paid the lawyer 5 times what the ticket itself cost.
The judge would have dismissed the ticket, but he said due to the Patriot Act he could not. He is correct, as the Patriot Act specifically does not permit judges to dismiss a ticket for a CDL holder.....but as seen here, they can lower the speed limit violation if convinced by your attorney.
This is the only ticket I have gotten in the past 30 years. I was new to the area and did not know the speed limits in the area I was driving. But mostly, I was suffering from exhaustion and did not see the speed limit signs when I came off a 4 lane, as I was playing with the headlight switch settings, of all things. There were not any other cars around to key me into my speeding, just the car with the flashing blue lights on it. I would not intentionally drive more than 10 mph over the limit with my car, but I was guilty as charged. -
In reality, even the lowering of the charge is not allowed under the fmcsa ticket masking rules.

There are so many laws I doubt the judges even know them or the miriad of places they need to look for a particular situation.
