They have a line hall academy coming up. Are they home every day?

Yes, home daily. Line haul means you take trailers to another terminal and do a drop & hook, then back to your home terminal. Some drivers at some terminals do an overnighter every now and then with hotel, hourly pay, meals.

 

I know two drivers that run line haul out of Nashville and home every day. They run to Indianapolis, do a drop & hook, then back to Nashville.

The big benefits are the pension, free health insurance for the driver and family and home time.
Unless it's changed, the driver is vested for a pension after 5 years.

Should I get my CDL permit first before I applied or do you think they will let me know that’s what I need to do next? I am going to the BMV today.

 

Once you complete the requirements below, you’ll be qualified to enroll in our CDL Driving Academy.

• Obtain a Class A CDL Permit (student paid)
• Pass DOT Physical (student paid)
• Obtain TSA background/fingerprint check for hazardous material endorsement (student paid)
• Pass a DOT drug test (company paid)
• Motor Vehicle Report (company paid)

Indy is about 3 hrs from South Bend.

 

Not necessarily.I know a guy who started at the bottom on linehaul at Holland. He would be out all week, running from point A to point B, layover, go to point C, layover, go to point D, layover, and then back to point A

 

TMC offers training, not sure about the Indy area.
