...can try Alvil or Arka ...heard good feedback from veteran drivers there...hard to tell these days , I try to leave the industry...barely drive in winter and keep in touch with trucking buddies less and less
...why not going ups or fuel tanker line?

    chicity1985 Thanks this.

I’m just trying to get my foot in the door. With limited experience, I figured the best route would be some mega carrier that hires everyone.

FFE isn’t offering the refresher. They are only hiring exp drivers. So that’s a no for FFE. Thanks for the info, though.

Just out of my own curiosity, how does the union with CPD work? Are you able to lateral transfer to another department and keep your years of service or is it completely separate from other departments? If you can transfer within the union is it only Illinois departments?

    And,

Any luck yet getting your foot in the door somewhere? If not, after the first of the year will/should be a better time once the Holidays are over, as expected.

    I'm not surprised.

The CDL job market has tightened up considerably over the last 18 - 24 months, or so.

Searching for employment in that area (especially for the those without recent experience) is NOT for the faint of heart. o_O

Schneider National hired me, when no one else would, because:
    • I already had all the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat -- & doubles/triples (plus a TWIC card, & a valid US passport)
    • Schneider simply has more freight to move than almost everybody else
    • I had a clean driving record
    • I had no real criminal history
    • I could pass the DOT physical
Give Schneider a try -- if you have no success elsewhere.

It seems like a lot of departments are hurting for officers, so most have opened up lateral applications. I have only inquired about one. This dept was also FOP. They would carry over my pension & time but not my salary.

No luck yet but I’ve been following through with a lot of the good advice I’ve received on this forum.
