What do you think these O\O's dislike so much about electronic logging. I have been on some form of electronic logging for the last 17 years and have no problem with it myself. Started with the auto coach system then ZATA and finally qualcomm. You run legal and there is no problem, the system takes a little getting used to but once your up to speed its pretty simple. Without going into great detail you still have the ability to use your 70 in your favor, you just cant mess with line three.
It would seem to me that the majority of Landstars O/O's are there because they are successful in this industry. One reason for that success is a positive history of compliance to all laws including HOS. I get some of the arguement against forced EOBR's but for a drivers like those at Landstar I would think it would be less of an issue.
These O/O's are going to run out of places to go because as much as I dislike the government intervention I believe EOBR equipment of some kind will be on all trucks in the future. My opinion is that if your an O/O the option to go with an EOBR should be by choice, sadly like many other things the government sees it the other way.herfinharry and russellkanning Thank this. -
so let's say I've had my CDL for a year bought a truck out right for a couple thousand and and passed safety inspection theoretically I could go to landstar that same day in sign up for orientation
-
You have to be pre approved and dont be suprised if your passed over. One year of CDL experience is the minimum requirement but I dont think LS is looking for alot of inexperienced drivers. Its always good to try just dont buy that truck based on the theory its going to be working at LS until your approved.kevinright2026 and truckfam Thank this.

So, would it be best to apply without a truck, and then get one after you have approval?
It makes them sound more credible knowing they don't lease trucks themselves. However I'm curious if they give any assistance in finding a good third party to lease from? -
Yes it would be best to be pre-approved. In fact, your finance company will require it. They do not have anything to do or get involved with leasing or buying trucks.

My husband took a load I didn't like. He asked me to get him home. I asked about his hours. He had 36 hours on the clock. He's pretty honest about his time. He hates logs and ignores little things. He hates being tracked. No GPS, no tracking, he shows up when he's supposed to be there and he follows the law. I sleep with him and I don't ask his whereabouts. He's always where he's supposed to be. After 25 years, why do they need to track him? It's insulting and demeaning.

Roughly, 20% of your gross. You might still owe more. You'll owe a 2290, IFTA, IRP, TTL. All the truck taxes are deductible. You'll owe self-employment tax and social security. If you have an IRA, that's deductible. That's all Federal. A schedule "C" will be your best friend, Keep all receipts. State taxes are different.
If you ever make a dime, hire a CPA. Depreciate everything. Sell your truck after 5 years. Taxes, fuel and repairs will eat you alive, in this business. -
When I talked to them, they recommended these two:
Lone Mountain Truck Lease http://www.lonemountaintruck.com/
Truck Mart http://www.truckmartllc.com/index.html
