I saw the plume of oil vapor when the line came undone but by then, it was too late.

BTW - there is a new upgraded line that's out now.

You know what they say about opinions + @ssholes. :biggrin_25511:

Obviously you don't know anything about that turbo oiler line I'm referring to and what kind of pressure it has under a pull w/ a lded trailer.

No check engine light, no fault codes. By the time I saw the oil pressure drop - that was all she wrote.

Western States Cat in Missoula, MT -took 3 days to say that the ECM on the "new" motor (that wasn't purchased from them) that was installed by them was bad + that I needed to buy a new ECM or maybe send in my ECM to Cat HQ get it washed, sent back and re flashed by them (4 days turn around not including holiday Monday) might fix the issues or might have to buy new ECM anyway at a primo Caterpillar rate. WS is a major Cat dealership - not a small licensed shop.

DH 860 miles to St George, UT (PDI) with the engine in "derated" state (59 mph top speed) sitting over the holiday weekend - Shawn at PDI re-set the "USER PASSWORD" and KW Mutiplex system was communicating with the Cat ECM in minutes. Like I've said - not a Cat fan at the moment.

Wasn't trying to hi-jack the thread or go off course - just trying to clarify few things.

Obviously its not the "turbo" oiler line. It sounds like the high pressure line for the injection system that runs up near the back of the head. It probably had the old style line that should have been replaced. I still find it hard to believe that it cooked the motor that fast. I am not saying that it couldnt but thats alot of oil through a small hose.

On my '05 C-15 I had a faulty oil pressure sensor that was sending "0" pressure to the ECM. The engine would start but would shut down in less than 10 seconds. The sender to the gauge still worked and the gauge read 62 pounds. I unplugged the ECM OP sensor and it defaulted to 72 pounds so I could run until the new sensor came in a few days later. Point being, the ECM would shut the engine down long before any damage can be done UNLESS, the ECM was programmed to throw a code rather than shutting the engine down (if this can even be done) and if so someone screwed up but it wasn't CAT. Caterpillar put the safety net in place (auto shutdown), someone ELSE must have defeated it.

Then why is that oil line connects in between the twin turbo? It just happened 23rd of last month to 2nd week of this month and I got the receipts to prove it. :biggrin_2555:

Seems everything I look at has a C15 in it. Really going to take my time and get the best truck I can. Still wondering what kind of MPG's everybody is getting with their C15's and would like to hear a little more constructive pors and cons.
    Thanks.

There's no easy answer for that kind of question. Ultimately's it's a cat, take care of it and.. Lot's of info in here about acert's to help you make an informed decision if you wade through all the threads.

Ive read a bunch of threads but so many conflicting comments its hard to make a decision. Some are even trying to convert the dual turbo to a single. I have a couple trucks with C15's im looking at but may hold off and wait for a truck with a Cummins or Detroit.

I own 2 trucks 1 is a ISX and the other is a Cat ACERT. I would buy another ACERT in a minute. I would have to think long and hard about another ISX. Get 1 with a Cat get a tune (PDI is my choice) you will be glad you did. The only guys that tallk bad about a Cat have never driven 1 that was tuned up.

Actually my advice to you would be to look at the overall truck and how well its been maintained. Get a truck that fits your head as well as your heart, if you know what I mean. You can get good life and mpgs out of all of them if they are properly speced. They all have pros and cons. I prefer a good balance of power and economy heavy on the power side. Thats why I like the Cats. Dont buy into the fallacy that Cat parts are expesive. They all are!!! and Cummins has alot of expensive parts that cant be found on a Cat.
Finally if your going to be a O/O just for the money you can probably make more money elsewhere. Part of being a succesful O/O is getting to drive a truck that you like.
