That's just bullcrap. A 4000 mile week is a turn to L.A. and back for my company. Not a big deal at all. I guess maybe we should all move to the east coast so we can make the big bucks running the low miles like you do huh?

If we would get rid of the hos we would not have to worry about elogs or being shut down due to being out of hours. Most people will shut down when they get too tired. There will always be those who push the envelope. No amount of regulations or elogs will stop them. It is time to put some common sense back into this industry.

I used to run like an idiot and broke all the HOS rules also. I am not on E-logs, but I have made changes to how I run on paper that if they demand them for all, the transition shouldn't be too much different than the way I run now other than I pay a different bill instead of a logbook bill. The rules do kind of suck, but the Elog shouldn't be what scares you. None of tickets the DOT can write you should even scare you. The LAWYER waiting for you to screw up while you have a driver with a jacked up logbook should scare the crap out of you.

First off, if a owner operator is operating under someone else's authority, they are responsible for the operators logs and logging violations. The operator may runt heir own truck, but they if not under their own authority, others are responsible for their mistakes. The company csa score will go up if operators have log problems.

That being said (I'm gogin to get burned for saying this)...E logs just enforce the rules you should have been following anyway. If you say you cant make any money running elogs, then you are saying you cant make any money with hours of service. HOS is the problem not elogs. Further more, if you say you hate elogs for any reason other then the cost of installation, you are admitting to running illegally. HOS is a law, elogs is just like hiring more DOT officers to enforce it. Now, that being said, if everyone runs legally, supply and demand will make freight rates go up. if there are less hours drivers can move and freight stays the same, rates go up. Its simple economics. Unfortunately, a few people running iligal ruin it for the rest of us. If you have more hours to work, you can haul freight cheaper and take it away from us legal drivers.

Point is, Start running legal and elogs wont be a big deal. If we all run legal we will all make more money for doing less work. Lastly, if you have a problem with HOS, fight to have HOS changed, dont just complain about the new enforcement officer called elogs.

FYI, I'm an O/O and I make a ton of money running with these "money killing things". (literally about 3 tons of money if in quarters)

Its still a 34 hour restart, it just requires 2 night. If you time it right its not 48 hours. Do you research and learn how to log before complaining about regulations that arnt even true.

OOIDA offers fuel discount. You can also offer a level of service the big companies cant. As for tires, join the Michelin advantage program. I get great prices on tires as a single truck operation.

Your basically saying here you get extra runs by running illegally. That is not cool.

It could be done, even at just 60 mph you could do 4020 in 67 hours (leaving 3 for pre/posttrip). But to average 60 mph, you better haul ###, especially if you hit traffic. You would need a 34 hour reset when done though. This is why elogs are not the evil thing everyone thinks they are. You could do that run legaly.

Is this the unintended consequence of the E-log? Drivers running the MAXIMUM speed their truck will go, in order to produce the maximum number of miles? My truck will run 85 mph if I tell it to. That's expensive though. Even in the 70-75 mph states I don't like to push it that fast. Yes if I had an E-log I could set the cruise on 75 all day long and legally show say 800 miles in a day but is that a good idea? Has it gotten to the point that drivers actually NEED to average even say 3,000/week or 150k/year miles to earn a decent living? What am I doing wrong?
