I know on my old company truck when EOBR system was put in they took off that stupid looking white dome on the roof. Never had another antenna you could see. I would guess that some holes of some sort have to be put in the truck though to run the wires.

I started this thread because there have been drivers wanting to lease older trucks to landstar and were told they couldnt because an EOBR wouldnt hook up to a mechanical engine. I simply wanted them to know that wasnt right. You dont want an EOBR? Dont put one in. I really dont care one way or the other. Like everything else, there are things I like about it, and there are things I dont like about it. I like landstar, I have to have an EOBR. Simple.
Moving Forward Thanks this. -
Its all under the dash.
milskired Thanks this. -
Not that I want one in my truck, but I am curious how they work.
I read that they plug into the diagnostic port (on electronic trucks). For what reason? To read the speedometer speed sensor?
And how do they work with a mechanical engine? Purely by satellite? -
I cant answer that because I flat dont know. My truck is a 96 Pete and is computerized except for the speedometer and I have to manually start my drive time too. Wish I could answer your question. Sorry.
-
Interesting. I would think the 96 would have a speed sensor that feeds the speedo. I know that the Freightliners have them from at least 94, but probably before that even.
I have always been curious how they work, because we all may have to have them eventually.
And thanks for your post. I had been looking into landstar a while back, and some of the guys here flat out said no way with a mechanical engine.
Very good information. -

One thing that can easily be done on any mechanical truck is putting an electronic speedo in the truck so that way it has a sending unit that will go inline with the EOBR.

Oh boy...Its Richter again......i never plan on leasing my equipment on to anyone...Let alone someoner that requires THEIR approval and shop to handle my equipment...By installing tracking and
Measuring driving habits.......
Gotta be crazy..Whats Next..these carriers require THEIR mechanics to give an annual inspection too? As If the owner of the truck knows nothing?Joetro and TwinStickPeterbilt Thank this. -
Ls doesnt have an approval or shop for normal maintance. Only thing you need to use an approved shop for is inspections, which makes sense. They want to insure a reputable shop inspects the trucks. I did a lot of my own maintenance and PMs. I never had to get approval.
They allow you to disable any driving habit things. If you choose to disable, they dont know or care when you have hard brakes or anything else the qualcome tracks. LS also has no idea where you are. the EOBR does, but that data is not transmitted to LS other then in log form with cities.
I'm not saying you have to lease your equipment to anyone, but don't bash them when you don't even know the facts.
