To much down time. 4 days to do Calgary to Vancouver to calgary. Almost 5 hours to load at Nestles in flood hope. Often unload fridays load early monday morning to load later Monday afternoon. So loose a whole day pay, when I could be driving. Most loads I haul are upwards of 58 to 60000.lbs. I have done lighter loads but not often not quite sure why. I can only assume they give those to company drivers they save on fuel. 8-10 am phone in time is expected, even if you off load at 4:00 am. And when I phone in at 8:00 I am told to phone back in an 1-1 1/2 because they need time to figure things out. they do claim it is on a first come first serve basis. I am not sure but am having a hard time believing this. They claim they need drivers but are having issues keeping me busy, even to the point of leaving me stuck in edmonton for 3 hours saying they couldn't find a run for me, because it was slow that day. It is funny though this happened after I phoned in late because I unloaded at 1:00 am didn't get to sleep until 3am. And only after I confronted the dispatchers senior ( only to go on deaf ears) did I get a load could be because the dispatcher knew I was in the office. So after I finish this load, I am on my way home and done with Monarch. And other than a few of the office staff that were actually very pleasant, I won't miss it.

Id you look at the Canadian fleet rates for an O/O then its a no brainer that you arnt gonna do so good. I was running on their US division for a while and it was ok but as of late the freight kinda peetered out so I pulled my truck. They were the friendliest and easiest to get along bunch I ever worked for and if I ever wanted another job pullin a van then thats definately where I would head back to...if times are good. They are with the Teamsters union who IMo are a binch of wimps who couldnt negotiate their way out of a wet paper bag. All in all I had alot of fun and good times at Monarch and would give them a very high recommendation anyday!

Well unfortunatley the Candian fleet dont seem to be that happy. Different dispatchers (not as freindly) to much down time. And unfortunatley if you have a truck lease and a mortgage, good luck paying them. I would be more than happy to provide logs showing all the down time with monarch. They shouldnt be advertising for drivers when they cant keep the ones they have working. The pay wouldnt be so bad if they didnt have you sitting, and you dont mind doing a trip from calgary to vancouver and back in in 4 days then have atter. But as far as o/o rates go they are better then alot of companies that haul dry van. And yes I did do my research.

Also for anyone starting on Monarch make sure you watch your pay. 3 pay periods , first time they missed 2 trips with my check at 97.00. Next pay period they missed 3 trips. 2 they knew about, 1 they can't find. They still haven't payed me for the one they missed last pay period and shorted me, and haven't paid me for the one on this pay period, mostly Edmonton to Vancouver, Vancouver to Calgary runs. My advice stay away from them. It's one thing for them not to give you any miles it is another when they can't pay you to do the ones you did. Unfortunately those who think truck drivers are not educated and are too stupid, and can't figure out what these carriers are doing are in fact idiots themselves. My Last company job I dispatched myself so does that in fact make dispatchers Idiots, If that is what you dispatchers think then in fact you are Idiots. I happen to have a college education, how many dispatchers can actually say the same. Some people on this site seem to stereotype all truckers as uneducated and Idiots. But in fact this industry used to be a good industry to work in but now that the carriers have drug it into the ground, hiring on temporary foreign workers I believe to drive the wages down, the only smart drivers left are the ones going independent owner operators, or the ones reluctant to find one of the almost extinct carriers, that still have respect for their drivers.

A College education and you drive a truck???? Which 50% of the class did you graduate from???
-
I don't have to guess why you can't find drivers
-
I happen to be aware that there are still good dispatchers out there, but unfortunately I have not had the privilege of working for any since I have became an owner operator. And that finger was only pointed at those who believe truck drivers are stupid or a joke. And no I do not have to explain my education to you, but if you are entitled to that then why don't you tell me how far you went in your education.

Guess what! All our trucks are filled. At a starting rate of $30.00 an hour plus OT why wouldn't they be.
