really we are forced to have new engines. Emission laws in Europe and in Cali make us switch to DEF engine....
If you wanna use truck in areas w/o strict emission regulations look for pre EGR engine, like old MB, Cummins N14, 3406E ore Series 60 pre EGR.
Do not use engines with injection pump becouse when it goes old fuel milage is terrible.
Look for engine with pump injection units ore PLD (EUP). There was good engine Mack E6/E7 but I'd avoid it, becouse Mack makes no motors now (they use Volvo engines) and no parts available for good price. Fuel injection parts for Mack were made by Bosch, but really they are available in Europe only now
Good engine is ISX CM570 ECM. No EGR, No VGT, no problem)speeedy Thanks this. -
I am using a Detroit Series 60 500 hp pre-egr. Factory rebuild crate motor in a 2013 FL. Only other engine I have been partial to is the Cummins N-14.

Paccar UPEC (Euro-3, no EGR) made in 2000 keep running too. And I'm disapointed with Paccar MX

Cat 3406 e 800,000 no blowby

how about the Cat C 15 or C 12 ?I I heard that if you remove the Egr straight pipe it and flash to an older model ECU program that they run fine forever and a day ,,,,
