Info on new type starter

    Just put the same one on my Star. I had the same before, so no big difference to me. Was $309 out the door at a FL dealer.
    New one has an overcrank gizmo on it though, that will trip if it gets too hot after repeated starter use. I left it on for now, but figured how to bypass it if it takes a dump.

    First cold start this season with the Newer high torque starter. Temp was 11 degrees. Not really cold but a good test.
    My truck is a 1999 with a N14+. Last couple years if I didn't plug truck in I had to give it ether to start below 20. Yesterday it fired right up. Not like with the older style starter. Much happier with this starter now that I know it helps in the cold weather.

    I am unclear after reading 2 times through all the posts, is this the 39MT or the 44MT?

    Hi everyone, new to this forum, been OTR about 8 years, always company driver. Bought an old VNL630 '98 with N14 Celect for some odd jobs I can pick up. Put new 39mt starter on and think wired right but guess not. No OCP on it. Put ignition (red) wire to magnetic relay top connection. Before I attached battery ground I tested volts form ground post to cable to starter and it showed 15.5 volts. So if I connect ground cable to neg post I'm gonna fry everything. Cant get Delco Remy website to boot up to check wiring, but I replaced all wires as they were on old starter which didm't have magnetic relay. Anyone have this problem and how to fix? Thanks for any replies.

    Don't know if I can help you with the wiring, but it sounds like this one has the overcrank protection which Martin mentions at the top of this page? I couldn't get Delco Remy either, so not just your computer. You've got some strong batteries there if they're sitting at 15.5 volts engine off, wow. Seems a bit high. What is OCP? Couldn't figure that one out. And, sounds like you're somewhat electrical savvy, for sure don't want to connect 15.5 volts to something which is a 0 volts(ground). Unless there is a load in between the 2 (like your starter motor). Anyway I am sure someone else here will be able to help you out with the wiring. Congrats on the truck! I bought a 98 Volvo brand new with a 460 N14. I loved that truck. Quietest truck I've ever been in. Had some trouble with it cutting out under load, 2 different times. Once it was poor contacts with the ecm fuse which was in the battery box on mine. Other time ended up being "dry" low sulphur diesel causing problems. Didn't mean to side track, good luck with the starter.

    You shouldn't have that kind of voltage with the engine off, do you have it on a charger? If so, turn it off as that will cook the batteries at the voltage.
    Starter hookup is pretty straightforward, little wire to solenoid/magnetic relay, battery positive to the solenoid and negative cable to the back of the starter or a mounting bolt, depending on the truck.
