They are moving to paperless logs with the new QC's, I just met a driver that was using it. He said there were currently 2 terminals using paperless, but I don't recall which ones. AFAIK PrePass (for weigh stations) is standard on all the trucks. The toll passes like PikePass, EZPass etc are on some of the trucks - possibly O/O and L/O - and mine has them. About the only places I have to pay a toll are bridges. I'm pretty sure my truck used to be a L/O.
I work out of the Greer Terminal. IMHO Greer is one of the best if not the best terminal to work out of. Simply the people make the difference. Most everyone there has vast experience and they don't cut corners. Lynn is your DM during training and she will give you a line of crap though. She will try to scare you and say she can see and hear in the truck. Your mentor runs the show not Lynn. Just ask a lot of questions while your out there with your mentor, take notes if needed. Take it serious and you'll do great. I have no complaints aside from the norm from any company. As a company driver as well. Best way to get in the good graces when your on your own is to known as a "runner". which means driver drive drive. Starting August swift will go paperless on all trucks. To be completed by Aug'12 Everyone gets prepass/ezpass the other passes will be decided by what you run. Me I never paid a toll. If I didn't have a electronic pass i went another way. I only had $100.00 for the week. So I wasn't gonna lay out $50.00 in tolls and leave myself with no money. You shouldn't either. good luck.
Hey flatbed22, how do you like that T2? What's the weight on it? Heard those trucks can't take full lumber loads? Just wondering as I'm looking at 'upgrading' out of my company truck one day. As for all the passes you just need to ask for them, for KS and pike pass it was no questions asked. Though girl trailer division could be different.
I do full lumber loads no problem. The weight takes some off the steers. My steers are never over 12400 my tires are rated for 12300. Also I've gotten 7.2 mpg with a full lumber load because im shaped like a van. My next set of tires I will make sure they have a higher rating. Also most drivers just use it as a reason to turn down the load. They weight you prior to going in and weight you on the way out. The loader only gives you what you can handle.
