schlepper004, thanks for all the update on our progress through nwlb program, i contacted my case manager on wed just past after talking with the person at the driver training only to find out that the lazy#####, still has not called me to inform me that i have to complete the blue book process.

This is to include researching driver training schools, all ready have picked the one that i will attend, job resume, application, bah, bah, bah. Already have 4 pre-hire from different companies just part of the game i guess.

I have been going through this process since mid october, had my intake assessment on october 28, only to have my paperwork sit on her desk for 3 week, then i got it signed off by her supervisor, and sent to the top of the list in the mid part of november and she still has not contacted me since then to let me know that this had to be done.

So i went to she her on wed to express my true feelings as to how my case is being handle in a quick fashion and as to why i have not been called to set this up and she told me that she was going to call me and setup an appointment and since i was already there it was set for december 4, 2008. So i asked to talk with the supervisor and requested a new case manager, and asked that since she seem so busy and overwhelmed that maybe they were hiring and i might be able to carry on her job coming from a manager background.

She did not thank this was funny, i did and i am sure alot of the other people in the office thought so too. Hopefully everyone had a great thanksgiving day, and after ready some of these thread i cannot believe that you guys are token and not passing, what could of folks are you? I have to children one is 19, and the other is 6 talk about life changing events.

    *I* think it's funny too!

And, who knows - maybe they are hiring.

Not that I'd wanna work in a place like that.

Put your complaint in writing and mail it to the head of the office (include the good, too). Do your best to be polite, and as grammatical as possible.

I Went through WIA in Colorado - had a wonderful experience, for what it is. Caseworker(s) called me at least every other day, told me what was happening behind the scenes, when I should expect what, and whether or not I needed to do something.

Gobbler day was excellent in my house. Houseguest did the cooking, and all was "most excellent". He's a great cook. Of course, I ate too much. Hope y'all got plenty to eat and had good times with friends and family.

I just went to the agency today to apply for NWLB and was told that they don't have an opening for the first class until May to even start the process.

I live near Detroit, must be part of the problem. Their suggestion was to try to sign up at an office 100 miles away -- they gave me a list.

hey mesablue, i am the one that started this thread due to the fact that i was not getting the services that i thought that i was entitled to and my case manager dragging her feet. I have an appointment tomorrow to get issued my blue book, which is the final step in getting approval for monies.

Believe me this has been along and hard process, especially when your case manager decide to do nothing. That is why i went over her head to get better result. I was in the works office last week and hard the supervisor inform the front desk that there would be no orientation classes for the month of december, not until january 2009.

They stated that this was due to the heavy unemployment here in michigan, you have to have the orientation class before anything can be started. My advise would be as they told you to look at going to another michigan works office. I think that you should be able to contact the one in pontiac off of perry st. It is the same road as 24, and they might be able to get you into a class in january. You can look them up under michigan work web site.

I can't believe that your office is so far behind that you will not be able to get this class until may. I hope that this information is helpful to you.

I received my call from the community college here yesterday that they have received my 'contract' from Michigan Works. In other words, my schooling is finally paid for.

Still waiting on the wife's. Hers should be sometime this week, hopefully.

On a separate note, I got an application in the mail the other day from the county jail, and wife got referred to a local food processing plant that makes baby food (you do the math). I'm really torn between staying home and working for lots less money, or living in a truck for a few years and getting everything paid off. Never had such a case of indecision ever in my life. I've always just worked. Sister tells me to follow through on EVERYTHING and take the first thing offered. That's why I'll start CDL school in January.

Bright spot, though, is that I believe trucking will help me get one foot out the door of this state and it's short-sightedness.

I'm sorry to hear about your hurdles with NWLB. If you can get what you need from the offices 100 miles away, get that thumb out (make sure it's covered with a mitten) and get your butt there. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

    I wish you success.

hey mesablue, I went to the Michigan Works Office today and finally picked up my blue book only to be told that I have to complete everything in it before it can be turned in for review. I have been going around and around with these stupid people and there BS since the beginning of October.

My wife says that she can tell that I am getting frustrated with this whole process. I informed my case manager today that I would be seeking a different case manager and asked her if the blue book was the last phase of this process and she stated that once I did all the required work in the book that it would be sent up for review. I told my wife that it was so hard to control myself from reaching across the desk and putting my hands around this lazy good for nothing ###ch.

My wife said that hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel, and everything happens for a reason, I guess that's why she is the logical one, because after retiring from the military I have no patience for lazy, stupid people. Like I believe what goes around comes around and maybe someday that case manager will find herself in the unemployment line and she will get someone just as caring and helpful is she was. They have it posted in the Michigan works office that orientation will continue on Jan 5, 2009 if you can not find someone closer.

thats everyone for all you information and help.

andyjk9, thanks for all the information that you have posted, glad to hear that things are working out for you and your wife. It is hard to decide sometime on what best for your situation and only you can make that choice. I feel that you made the right one and I am sure it will work out better for you. I too have been offered a couple of temp position but I look at the whole picture.

Get hired by a company and try to get back on your foot only to find out a couple of month's later that they want to close up shop or lay off and you in a worse situation now if you know what I mean, not to mention that the pay is slave labor and won't even cover my bills. With the economy being in the toilet, I am a skilled plumber and pipefitter, carpenter of custom home and for the last 3 years heavy equipment construction operation use to making decent money and no one seems to be hiring in these fields so what is someone to do.

The county jail that is possible the only hiring in this whole county due to no one being able to earn a living, so crime will go up and build new jail and prison and hire people to baby sit grown man and women. It's like I told my wife prison are a very profitable business for every state view. company contract with the prison for a cheap labor force, no medical, companies profit and the prison's get money for making the workforce available. American businesses at their best.

Whitehall Michigan is a beautiful place been up there several time to visit family and pulled RV to some of the camp ground and spent time with family and friends at Michigan Adventures park just a great place to just relax and spend time with what is really important in life, family and great friends. Maybe the good Lord really does have a plan, just have to wait and see, did 20 years in the army and he made sure that I come home every time with not as much as a scratch, I figure if I come though everything that this really can't be that challenging.

Thanks for everything, didn't mean to vent so much but sometimes it helps...LOL

    Specops-

No prob on the vent at all.

I would have been retired from the Air Force 4 years by now, if I didn't have the ex telling me to get out.

Regarding Whitehall, I drive past Michigan's Adventure 2x daily. The guy that started that is one smart man...used to be called Deer Park...a petting zoo. I live between there and the big lake....about 2 miles off the lake (still close enough to get a boatload of snow). I just moved here, and am happy as a clam.

So I don't hijack this thread completely:As I suspected, wife got her voucher today, and got the call from her career manager and the guy at the college within 10 minutes of each other.

Neither of us are the type that said we were going to grow up and become truck drivers. However, life has thrown us some really strange curveballs...some we brought on ourselves. We are going to make a strong go of this. I can foresee her getting sick of me on occasion, and vice-versa living in a truck. However, one of the biggest strengths in our marriage is that neither of us are afraid of work, and neither do things half-assed. We work well together. While this definitely was not our first career choice, we would be the most professional crap-shovelers on earth if that is what presented itself to us. .........having a hard time getting what I'm thinking into words....hope this all makes sense.

We have a 10-year plan, and it involves me getting a formal education while driving (okay, while the Puerto Rican is driving), paying off everything we have, and either teaching or lawyering at the end .....because I can.
I truly believe that truck driving professionally will get us exactly where we want.

I look forward to seeing you on the road, fellow veteran. Maybe if we keep posting enough, we'll be able to PM each other and compare notes.

Regarding wanting to reach across the desk and strangle the nice government employee, please remember that THAT person essentially holds the key to your future. You are much more disciplined than that person, and need to carefully consider your words and actions before you make them. I distinctly recall being a government employee, and despised working with the likes of your career manager, and mine......to an extent. That's why I left. However, their world is fairly small, and your name can get bounced around quickly. Guess I'm just trying to say be careful. Had a friend from the industry I came from that made enemies with his career manager, and it took him 10 months to finally get his training approved.

    Be cool, and keep pushing.......tactfully.

On a side note, my sister, who used to be married to a trucker, has been surprisingly supportive of me. She despised the lifestyle, but thoroughly enjoyed the money. I think it was just the loser she was married to. Dumb sumbit** was an O/O and actually won a brand new one-of-a-kind Western Star in a sweepstakes in 1986. He manages a muffler shop somewhere in TN right now. Story for another day.

    Peace.

thanks andyjk9, for all the useful information, glad to hear that everything is going well for you and yours. I truly understand the making the process hardier than it needs to be. And using a tactful approach when dealing with these people, i to was a government employee for 20 years and never treated people with this type of disrespect.

Like wife say what goes around will come around so don't want to get into all the bad karma, usually if people get by in life long enough doing this to other's it will come back to them someday. It's a #### scam that these people enjoy having this much power of someone else's life when you need help.

I have lived in michigan nearly all my life, moved from florida when i was 6 so that my dad could work at the pontiac motors plant. He worked for pontiac motor and fisher body at the same time until contract conflicted and he retired from fisher body after 20 years and continued to work for pmp for a total of 37 years and retired and passed away 3 years later due to lung cancer.

If i remember correctly cedar point purchased and remade michigan adventures a couple of years ago, nice place they have there.

Have to go to jackson michigan tomorrow to help brother in law do some work on his home, and then i guess i will complete this blue book. After you and your wife completed them how long was it until you received approval?

    Thanks for everything.

hey andyjk9, went and had my meeting with case manager yesterday and it took all but ten minutes of her time to hand me my blue book so i don't understand why she could not give this to me the last time we had a meeting. Who know how this place operates, know she tells me that i have to fill out the application for fed student aid on line, resume, research and provide 3 programs for the cecr.

Research labor market and research local market and what is complete 3 occupational research sheet? And then on top of all this write a page and half as to why i went to enter the trucking industries. Do you have any advise on what half this stuff is and what it needs to look like, did you and yours have to go through the same thing.

Then after i have everything completed and returned to her she will turn it in for review to see if funding is approved. This has become very frustrating over the course of this last several month. Hopefully this is the final phase, believe me if i could find a job in one of my trades i would start tomorrow and tell them to shove there bs where the sun don't shine. And see if they get that warm fuzzy feeling as i have had a time or two.

    Thanks for everything.
