dude, I don't know what it's like where you are at, but here in Grand Rapids MI they gave us written documentation that showed EVERY SINGLE THING needed... which included the items you listed in your last post. Allowed me to have everything pulled together for my first meeting with my intake manager.

So either you missed the details that they handed out to you, or your local office didn't inform you. In any case, sorry you had to go through that... you don't have much more to go.

schlepper004, THANKS FOR ALL THE POSITIVE INPUT AND NO I DID NOT MISS ANY THING THAT WAS HANDED OUT. IT'S JUST THAT THIS OFFICE DOES THING ### BACKWARDS IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. THE MAIN CAUSE OF EVERYTHING BEING SO MESSED UP IS THAT I HAVE A LAZY DON'T WANT TO DO HER JOB, BUT SHE SURE CAN STAY ON HER CELL PHONE FOR HOURS ON END.

I COMPLETED MY REQUIRED CLASSED IN CAREER SCOPE, TABE, AND ALL WORKSHOP AT THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER, AND DID NOT RECEIVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY CASE MANGER UNTIL 3 WEEKS LATER, TO DO MY INTAKE AND SHE NEVER GAVE ME ANY THING TO COMPLETE. AND INFORMED ME ON THAT DATE THAT THE NEXT PHONE CALL I RECEIVED WOULD BE TO COME IN AND GET MY APPROVED PAPERWORK, BUT SHE NEVER CALLED TO LET ME KNOW ANYTHING.

SO ABOUT 3 WEEK LATER, THE DRIVING SCHOOL CALLED MY CASE MANAGER AND ASKED HER IF EVERYTHING WAS ALMOST COMPLETE AND SHE TOLD HIM THAT I STILL NEEDED TO COMPLETE MY BLUE BOOK PROCESS, SO HE CALLS ME AND ASK WHAT GOING ON AND I INFORM HIM THAT I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM HER. SO HE TELLS ME THAT I CAN COME TO HER OFFICE AND PICK IT UP, SO I GO, AND REQUEST THIS AND ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT SHE CAN'T JUST GIVE IT TO ME, SHE HAD TO MAKE ME AN APPOINTMENT.

SO I ASKED WHEN DID SHE PLAN ON CALLING AND MAKING THIS APPOINTMENT AND SHE GOT ALL INDIGNANT WITH ME. ( I GUESS I WAS MAKING HER DO HER GOOD). THAT'S SOMETHING ISN'T. SO AS YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE I DON'T HAVE MUCH FAITH LEFT IN HER, SO I REQUESTED A DIFFERENT CASE MANAGER.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND HELPFUL INFORMATION.

KNOW TO WRITE THE LETTER EXPLAINING WHY I WANT TO BE A TRUCK DRIVER, AND BELIEVE ME IT NOT BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY JOB OFFERS FOR PLUMBER, CARPENTERS, HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATORS OUT THERE IN THIS ECONOMY. AT LEAST IT WILL PAY A LITTLE BETTER THAN MOST OF THE OFFERS AROUND HERE, 7 OR 9 DOLLAR AND HOUR WITH A FAMILY.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Been shoveling white stuff a lot today. Got a foot overnight, and maybe another 9-14" tonight. Yeah.

    Here's how our process went:

We went to the orientation, and that is where they outlined the steps for us to complete-

Take the career skills assessment, where they help you find a career suited to your skills or desires. Mine said that I should be a customs agent.

Then we had to take the Work Keys test, math, reading comprehension, and locating information.

Then, after they score your test, comes the painfully slow process of getting your career manager assigned. We were told to show up with information on projected career growth from DLEG, and the places where the WIA or NWLB training was acceptable. When we met with the career manager, she asked where our pre-hire letters were. We had no idea that we needed them, but called the coordinator at the college, and he gave us 4 applications to fill out. We've been pre-hired now by Swift, Werner, and Covenant. NTB actually has a husband and wife division, but are not hiring now due to freight slowdown. They haul a lot of produce from the south to Meijer DC in GR. I was hoping to get on with them, as they are home every weekend.

Anyhow, the guy at the college faxed over the prehires, and we did nothing else but politely pester the career managers until they finally responded with our approvals.

Not sure if that helps or not, but that was it. I know nothing of the blue book you speak of.

Keep your chin up, and be politely tenacious. Looks like things are tightening quickly here.....further reaffirming my desire to get a foot out the door.

I'll see you on the road.

andyjk9, thanks for all the updates on the process of going through this mess. I know what you mean about getting the white stuff out of the way, had to do a little today myself and for others. Seems that i must have a case manager that is not to informed on this or just doesn't know what she is doing.

Blue book includes 3 personal references, including researching the labor market, 3 different schools in the area that offer same training, which in my opinion is a waste of time due to the fact that most offer the same type of training just different pricing. Had to research 3 different occupational job that were listed on my job bank listing with michigan works, fill out several pages of interview type question, and then write a page on why i wanted to enter the truck driving field.

The one thing that has me confused it that they want me to go online and file a federal tuition student application out, my question is why i have started the application but they want to know what education you are looking at starting and the school code, and what type of loan are you looking for, and i thought the nwlb/wia was a state funded program that they received money from the federal government to applies to unemployed worker. Not to mention the fact that if i wanted to apply for a student loan i could of done that on my own without going through all this confusion. So now i am really confused, is this the norm? Did you and yours have to do this?

As for now i guess i will have to contact my case manager's supervisor tomorrow and ask her if she can explain and clarify all of this for me, since my case manager has failed to do so. And at the same time request that my case be reassigned to someone else. Seems that everyone that i talk with has had to go through something different, same, easier don't understand, i thought that i was pretty well educated, maybe not.

Thanks for everything, i have a friend that live about 7 hours up north and they get unbelievable amounts of snow fall. Glad we don't see that much down here except every once in a while.

Just came in from removing more of the white stuff. Another 8" coming in the next 24 hours. Ready to not be stuck at home for a while. Don't mind driving through it at all....just hate shoveling it.

Not sure why they are telling you to get a federal student aid app. I'm told that CDL school is continuing education. Although it's taught at a college, it's not really a college class. Please note that I'm not speaking intelligently. Never been to college before. At Muskegon CC, there is either a con ed loan through Wells Fargo Bank (credit score-driven), cash, or WIA/NWLB.

I'm thinking either you pissed her off or vice-versa. In any event, kill the supervisor with kindness. Just remember that she has something YOU want.

Keep us posted after the meeting.

Also, change in plans for us. College is starting one more class before the holidays. We start next Monday, and it's me, the wife, and one other. Wonderful class size. I'll let you know how it goes.

andyjk9, glad to hear that things are working out for you and your other half and that the college has decided to start another class earlier.

Went and had a meeting today with case managers supervisor and she fully informed me of what was going on in my case, due to the fact that other michigan works office have different number of people applying to different office and this office seem to have alot more than normal due the economy in this area i am about in the process time frame as other case managers have their people. Which was good to hear.

Explained to her that my case manager was not keeping me or even informing me of anything going on in my case and asked her if she were in my shoes would see request another case worker this late in the game and she stated no. There is light at the end of the tunnel and that if i wasn't satisfied with their office or case manager i can filed a grievance with the office. ( ya, that's what i want to do, then file be lost somewhere i informed her).

Since i do not want my paperwork filed in file o, garbage can or misplaced until 2025, i would be patient and just get done with it. I am not the one that pissed any one off, it is the personal conflict between the driving school coordinator and case manager, and i informed her that i do not want to be placed in the middle of their conflict and have to pay the cost for him.

He's a salemen and all he wants is the money, remove him from the entire problem until i am completed. And things should run a whole lot smoother.

The reason they want every to submit a fafsa is due to the fact that they have so many program to offer and that sometime they try to get different programs to pay for some of the classes and funding the program. That away if other programs pay for this they will not have to use these funds. It's just a cover all the bases, and since nwlb is a state funded program it's just doing through the required motion. Naturally it is not going to be approved but you still have to apply.

The govern on december 4, 2008. Received and assigned the state of michigan additional funding for nwlb/wia, in the amount of 2 million dollars and to be shared throughout the states michigan works office. Watching the new just morning and michigan is finally number one for something, the highest unemployment rate in 8 years, 14.4%, michigan lost 440.000 jobs in the last 8 years. That is because michigan has alway founded everything around the auto industry and when other states get a cold we get the flu.

Sorry for be so long, just a lot being put out in a short time.

Thanks for everything and hope things go well for you and yours.

andyjk9, hope everything has been working out for you and your better half, i am sure the white stuff sure has been keeping you busy.
It sure has been keeping me that away, 10 inch and seems to be still coming. Have appointment on monday 22, 2008, to turn everything into my case manager and then it is sit and wait on the money to be approved. Called case manager last week and she acted as if i was bothering her and wanting her to do her job, that's something unusual request i guess, she did not won't to make an appointment for me until after the holiday's and i told her that this is getting to be a real problem with all the run around and she made it for this week. As for the application for student funding from fafsa i called her boss and asked her why this had to be filled out and she talked with me case manager and she replied that she knew that it never had to be filled out, and that she told me this. I will be showing her boss tomorrow the check list of requirements and that was the first thing on the list that she highlighted. Once again her and her games, i guess there is light at the end of the tunnel. So i guess all is coming to an end.

Hope that everything is working out for everyone up in the up, and everyone can dig themselves out from mother nature, hope to talk with you soon, merry christmas and happy new year and stay safe.

We started school last week, and wife and I passed our 3 tests at SOS on Wednesday. We started learning pre-trips Thursday, and were supposed to go out and bobtail Friday, but mother nature had other plans for us. The college wasn't closed, but the CDL classes were the only ones that showed up at the whole school. I just looked on our local station's website, and the college is closed tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll be able to drive before the holiday, but we're under a blizzard warning until tomorrow morning at 10. Been spending my weekend moving snow and splitting firewood.

I'm anxious to get school over with, and get hired on with anyone.

I'm glad to hear your fiasco looks like it's gonna start producing some results for you.

Merry Christmas. Keep us informed on your progress.

andyjk9, glad to hear that everything besides not being able to go on the road has worked out for you and the wife. It's good to hear that the both of you passed the test at sos.

When i went to the sos, i took all the test they had available and passed them all on the first try. Trying to keep so many test questions separated in my head was really a task. I went on a test and answer website to study everything and let me be the first to say that every question that i studied 98% of them were on the test.

From cdl, common knowledge, passenger, bus, triples/double, haz-mat, pre-trip question. Everything was made alot easier by studying that web site was worth the small price. I have a friend that lives in alpena, michigan, and i talked with him for a while yesterday and he said that snow was unbelievable in the amount that they got.

I'm just glad that i don't have to shovel all that mess out of the way, my brother in law live in jackson and he said that he plowed until 1130 pm to clear everything out of his drive way and believe me it's a long way from the road back to his house. Hope that you and yours has a great and blessed christmas.

Don't know if you have children, i would think not since the both of you are coming into the trucking field. But i have 2, one is 19 and the other young one is 6 and i think that we are done with all the christmas shopping, but you always seem to forget something or someone. I let my whole family know that money was tight this year
so there will a lot less being spent this year.

Just signed on for my first extension for unemployment, have you and the wife decided on which trucking company you are going to try and sign on with? I too have been pre-hired by arrow, covienant truck, stevens transport, pam, ffe, usa trucking, after doing all my research, i have narrowed it down to 3. Arrow being my first choice, and stevens transport, ffe.

One is flat bed and the other two are reefer trailer, chances are i would make better money with reefer or dry hauling, if i take away all the hassle of trapping and securement, i have worked with family drivers for many years and being receiver manager for 7 years at a home improvement store sometimes it not worth all the extra trouble if you know what i mean.

Take care and look forward to talking with you soon. Happy holiday's and a better new year.

    andyjk9,

haven't heard from you and yours in awhile, so hope everything is working out for the best. Know that you have been busy in class and everything, so how is everything going with your trucking endeavors? Got a phone call from my case manager today stating that my application for funding had been approved, just finished turning all the messy paperwork in on december 28th.

So i guess that it did not take that long after everything was done. They told me that i school that i wanted to attend, i needed to go on a waiting list, something to do with seeing how many funds are left for there school. Don't understand that due to the fact that i have been approved for funding. Then telling me that if i wanted to go to u.s truck driving school in detroit which is nearly 40 miles away that i would not have to wait.

I decided to stay with the school of my choice and contacted the school coordinator and explain what i was being told, he stated that he would look into the matter. Told him with all the trouble that i had to go through to stay with his school that i should be compensated in some way, when they are getting 4600 dollars for this training, sure they would not missed a little. A friend of mine went thru them and to keep him at their school they cut him a check for a couple of hundred.

Like i expressed it doesn't matter to me which school gets the money it matter to them more, not to mention i do not want to have to drive to detroit everyday, and this school is only 15 mins. From my home. Hope that training is going well for you and yours, have you decided what company you might go with?

Well friend thanks for everything and hope to talk with you soon, stay safe and keep me updated on your training.

    Jack
