I've had great success with the IPD parts, except for a blown head gasket (protrusion was fine), which I have since used the Cat head gasket, could have just been one bad gasket or possibly something I did, just stating my experience. I think most shops like the Cat packs because they can just slap them in, where as with aftermarket kits require using your old rods and have a machine shop install the pistons and wrist pins. All after market parts are new where as some of the Cat parts are reconditioned, hence the exchange of parts with oem. I don't know about Teflon on pistons, but I have it done to my bearings, and have the pistons ceramic coated, but voids your warranty on any brand.

Iv found ipd and interstate McBee to be fine. Reman kits are not that special. If I overhaul a cat with oem parts I use new parts not reman.
