My 2 cents.
If you're looking for a value priced overhaul, just spend the money on a runnin truck, and run it till it quits. Value and overhaul are words you can only really use together when you put 600k+ miles on an engine.
You won't get that if you try to cheap it together.
You're right, you're truck is a junker. You put 20-30k into it, and you better be willing to work it out of it, because you'll not likely ever see that money back any other way. You're not increasing the value IMO. It's just not a desireable truck.
What year is this truck? I didn't see that posted.

I can deal with nickel&dime, it’s the engine for me. Transmission, you can get a rebuilt one for 4-5k, rears maybe 2k-3k already looked into when I did my drive shaft, but engine …….Oxbow Thanks this.

That's not nickle and dime stuff. I'm talking the little stuff like old wiring, old airlines, air valves, hoses etc. That's the piddly stuff that'll hit you out of nowhere on an older truck.Feedman and Big Road Skateboard Thank this.

I missed last week because I had a broken s cam tube and didn’t know they had an updated part, had to change the spider along with it,

Yep. I've had my 98 KW two years and 3 months. I'm into it for 114k$ now, not including purchase price.

Everyone is different and has different reasons and ways to run their business. What works for me definitely wouldn’t work for a large fleet. I wouldn’t trade anyone my 2015 Pete (I have owned since new) or my 1996 Series 60 that came in it for a 2024 model with no cash out of pocket. It doesn’t take too many 3-4 weeks of downtime in the Pete or Cummins shop, with $30,000-$40,000 in lost revenue to pay for my nickel and dime events that usually cost me 2-3 hours in my $100 an hour independent shop and occasionally one day of lost revenue.
