This reminds me of the first time I was with a trainer from Swift. We went to a book warehouse in Willingboro, NJ. When he pulled out he said it was heavy and I told him there was a scale 15 miles up the rode in Bordentown, NJ. He did not want to go there so we started out to CA. Also would not stop at any other scales. So we went the back roads till we got to the Ohio terminal. Where he had them redo the load. It took them 2 days to do it and we lost the load.

*stares suspiciously at the newcomer and ponders that I'm pretty sure I know who he is* That girl is one of MY "adopted daughters" so watch it cowboy. I got a tire thumper, a can of wasp spray and a bad case of menopause.

Sort of, but not quite. You can be over 12K on the steers, but the GVW can not exceed 80K.

You can go over 12K to whatever your steer tires are rated for. In most cases, it's 6,175 pounds per tire, or 12,350 pounds total on your steer axle. My fifth wheel is set so that with full tanks and a heavy load, my steers will scale at 12,100. I only have to burn off 16 gallons of fuel (I round it up to 20) to be under 12K on my steers. That's about 130 miles. I figure 150 miles to be at or under 12K, which is kind of the threshold for raising eyebrows.. Reasoning behind that 20 gallons: about 90% of fuel weight goes to the steers on my truck. It's a good idea to know where your fuel weight goes. Find out by weighing both before and after you fuel then do the math.

    Ghostrider:
Better watch out for Ms. Nana. She's got a pointy stick, too. And she knows how to use it. Just ask around some. People will tell ya.
