I know that in Ohio, if you have a OH license, and you receive a ticket for overweight, it will show on your MVR. Received a overweight ticket in IL, and it did not show up on my MVR. I only found out when I received a letter from my car ins company and they wanted to raise my rate for a violation. Once they understood that it was Semi related and a overweight ticket, then they forgot about it.

My experience with out-of-state tickets is that if the state where the infraction occurred sends it to the state you're licensed in, you'll get it on your history with the points that your licensing state would assess.
Got a speeding ticket in Nebraska many years ago, and thought I could ignore it. NE sends it to CO, and I get a letter saying to take care of it from CO - if I don't pay the fine to the jerk NE sherrif's county, they'll suspend my license. Dangit! They didn't forget about the points either... -
have to be the funny guy is this how it all went down injun

As my DM said yesterday, when I was teasing him for something (via QC) "There's one in every crowd." I reminded him that he had a reason for insisting I return to and remain on his fleet....oh, by the way, say "hi" to your wife for me.
His response: "You're just not able to behave, are you?"Last edited: May 10, 2011

I'm not sure about a local violation, but don't count on a weight violation not showing up on your MVR, it probably will, but it also shouldn't matter that much.

If I am close to gross I usually just roll up on the scale and slam on the brakes. They usually don't want to wait 10 minutes for my smooth bore tank to stop rocking back and forth. I got one overweight ticket for 500 over on the trailer about 18 months ago. It was a 3 compartment dry bulk dedicated load that the plant screwed up loading putting too much product in the back tank. The shipper paid the ticket. One nice thing about tanks. If you are good on the gross weight you are usually good on everything else. No tandems to slide ever.

i don't take a chance with shipper's scales... they might be off even as you said it will weigh more than a certified scale... if it shows overgross at the shipper i ain't moving until it's fixed then go to a CAT scale ... that way if at DOT it shows i'm overweigh, CAT scale will take care of it... but that's if i can get to a certified scale before a DOT scale -
The ticket you got in Idaho, is written under the Idaho statute, the fine is paid to the State through the county of issue. No ticket is written to any specific FMCSA regulation, however many states have in the State code the comparable Fed code along with the State. If a Federal DOT HP issues the citation it is considered into the Fed regs, and enforced by the State courts.
Injun, your over axle ticket will be strictly handled by Idaho, and possibly the information forwarded to your state of issue with your CDL. I got the same over axle ticket in Idaho...scale on I-84 coming from UT...I paid the ticket to the Idaho court, and the ticket (no points) showed up on my CA DMV report.
Bottom line, you will have to note this ticket on your annual information form with Swift, and you should have told your DM about the ticket...just CYA on your part. No CSA Inspection report filed out at the scale? Then no correspondence with CSA as far as the ticket.scottied67, Injun, 25(2)+2 and 1 other person Thank this.
