I work out every single day.
I wake up, and that is the first task.
The second is to go in to clean up a bit and get my morning coffee. I also take my garbage bag to the garbage can, so I do some lifting as well.
My next task is my pre-trip, which involves some more walking and bending.
During the day I am doing a variety of tasks that take a lot of effort, like walking in to and out of shippers and receivers. Not to mention sliding tandems, climbing up and down steps, walking into and out of places...
A lot of effort.
OK, not really THAT much effort. But it is enough.
And, nothing ever hits me in the face or breaks my glasses.
That seems like karma telling one to slow down a bit, and relax a bit more.
Input from drivers that exercize regularly?

I've always carried weights and worked out on the road. Two 25lb and two 30lb dumbbells. I do my arms and shoulders in the truck and push-ups outside next to my truck for chest. There's always plenty of time when loading or unloading or on break at the truck stop.

Where do you keep that KB? I'm in a daycab. Kind of freaked out to keep it on the floor-too dangerous. I'm thinking of putting it in my empty side toolbox. -
I've seen a few with a bicycle, they went for a ride after their time in the sleeper then showered. could plan a jog the same way. I dont see how a shower would fit in afterward all the time. showers aren't always available at moments notice. gotta wait youre turn.
dont have a ritual like that myself -
When I ran a day cab pulling a pneumatic I kept a dumbbell under the passenger seat. Run a coat hanger around it and the seat frame to keep it secure in case you lay your rig over.Air Cooled Thanks this.

Solid idea. I just checked under mine. Passenger seat is air ride so I can't fit one with that darn airbag. -
I had one of those black plastic tool boxes bolted to my cat walk. I kept a few blocks in it in case I needed to drop a loaded tank, air hose, oil, coolant jugs. I kept my mallet, pry bar, coffee can with shims, and 4 inch fittings in the cab on the passenger side. Seat was a jumper, no air on that side. You might look into one of those boxes for your cat walk. $50 or so at Lowes. May be able to pick an old one up on Craig's for less.Air Cooled Thanks this.

My wife goes to the gym, and I'm looking at joining her on the weekends. I've gained almost 20 pounds since summer... >_>

Yes Id recommend working for a moving company to those who want to stay in shape. I started out working for one, great pay, good workout, and they put you in a hotel everynight. Less driving (about 1,000 miles a week), more time moving things out of houses. The pay is based on heavy the trailer is, boxes, furniture wrapped, ect.
The owner ops with the extra sleepers are the real money makers. A mini mansion, 6 day moving schedule, thats about a $30k moving cost. The customer's insurance will cover about 80% of the fee. So in 1 week, $30k, the company takes the cut, and the owner op makes $25k in 1 week. I know this because I was a helper for an owner op that made this type of money.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
No, not a team. She just wants to be a passenger, spotter, mobile chef, co-pilot, cheerleader, etc.
Glad you mention the economics of it, too though. How much should we expect to make per week?
