Swift doesn't "push their" trucks ... you have 4 ways you can aquire a truck through IEL or Swift.

    1. Lease a brand new shiny truck with a full warranty, through IEL.

    2. Take over an existing lease for the remainder of the lease period. Again with a warranty.

    3. Purchase a used truck through IEL. These may be previous company trucks or trucks that IEL as bought at auction. These trucks come with a 30 day bumper to bumper, no questions asked warranty.

    4. Purchase or lease purchase a truck through a terminal sponsored vendor. Not all terminals have this program and the vendor can be different from terminal to terminal ... some use Arrow, some Select.

My old mentor seems to have done option 2 or 3.
A ProStar, which he has just spent several thousand dollars on in repairs, since it has over 600k now.
And that is just before he needs to rebuild the engine.

He seems OK with his choice, but personally I would go for a new truck. At least that gives me a few years before the really expensive stuff comes in.

But, that is not an option I am even considering. I don't want either the responsibility or the head ache.

If he was mentoring he will out run the warranty ... it's good to 500K.

I took over and existing lease on my first truck. The warranty expired about the same time the lease was up. I'm doing a purchase on my current truck. It is a former company trucks ... it's missing a few options the O/O speced trucks have. The only one that really bugs me is the is pre option transmission for 13 speed conversion. I'll have to do that when it's time to rebuild/replace the tranny.

Most of the O/O trucks have the convertible 9-speed, all it needs is a $200 kit to convert it to a 13 speed. My truck has one but I elected to keep it a 9-speed as I don't truck ANY Swift shop with my truck and the one Freightliner dealer I spoke with wanted $500 + parts to do it. It's a 1 hour job.

    silverwolf59 Thanks this.
