Must be really frickin cheap if you're only diluting it 50/50. I'm paying about $1.50 per diluted gallon for Simple Green.

I buy Fabuloso from Walmart. Think it's like $5 or 6 for a gallon. They have even cheaper stuff called Fresquito for like $2 per gallon but isn't as potent as Fabuloso. The bonus with Fabuloso is that it has really powerful scents so using it to wipe down the interior doubles as air freshener.
My favorite is the original purple formula.

I tried the orange/yellow stuff that Loves labels and sells. Works great. Wish they sold it everywhere.

Rain-X makes 2 washer fluids, and they both have Rain-X in them.
One is for bugs.
But there is another Rain-X product that you may want to try with it, because there isn't that much Rain-X in the washer fluids.
They also make a washer fluid additive that you can add to any washer fluid that provides a much higher concentration of Rain-X.
All of those can be found at any Walmart.
The bottle says it treats 4 gallons, but I use 1/2 bottle per gallon.
The additive is around 5 bucks.
My current truck is a real pain in the rain because the cruise control shuts off when the wipers are turned on, even for a single swipe.
That additive makes it so I seldom need wipers anymore.slow.rider Thanks this. -
When you need wipers just push in the end of the stalk for a second they will wipe once and cruise stays onMoosetek13 Thanks this.

Put about 20 layers of clear cellophane wrap on windshield and just peel off a layer a time when needed. Lol!

Like others have already said, Dawn dish soap is definitely the way to go. Soak your windows with that stuff and then start your fueling. Then go back and just scrub it off. It doesn't have to hard. Much like we soak dishes first that have dried sauce on it. Same idea, less elbow grease that way.
Sometimes you will pull into a fuel island and you will see the dish foam already in the bucket. Some other driver already added it.
If you add it yourself, do not add very much. Just a short squirt. One time I added too much and I was left with a white sheet on my windows. You don't want to see a lot of suds on your windows while you are cleaning.Canadianhauler21 and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
The best ones that smear across your windshield like that have multiple color innards. So they paint little rainbows for you.Canadianhauler21, kemosabi49, slow.rider and 1 other person Thank this.

I kinda do the same thing but without additives. Get it wet, let it soak, scrub, let it soak, one more quick wash and then squeegee dry. Usually finish before the tanks are full. And when I say let it soak, that means for a few seconds while I step to the other side and do the other half of the windshield. No actual waiting involved.Canadianhauler21, TravR1 and InTooDeep Thank this.

Wipe windshield with RainX,,makes it easier to remove bugs. I do this with my hot rod on road trips,,also on front fenders.
On big truck,, If I stop and lots of bugs on windshield I spray it with Windex and wait 5 minutes then use wipers. That will lift the bug crap off the windshield provided the sun is not beating down.Canadianhauler21 Thanks this.
