I was talking to NASTC today and the person told me a few things I'm curious about.
He told me that since I have a new Authority I have no inspection I have no points basically I have a perfectly clean record.
He said that because of that I will almost always get a green light.
He also told me that I need to try to avoid being inspected at all costs. He was trying to say that if an owner operator gets a bad inspection so many more good inspections are required to make up for that, and it's much easier for larger Fleets with more trucks to make that up.
I thought that I read somewhere that at some point you want to be inspected. I thought that at some point it's important that you have the inspection on your record. He seemed to not feel that way.
It was an interesting conversation, but I'm not sure that information is correct.
What do you think?

If you get inspected and they find, say an OOS tire, then your carrier CSA will show a vehicle OOS of 100%. In that case the only thing that will change it is to get clean, or at least non OOS inspections to get the % down. All you really can do is keep your equipment in a condition that you are confident will pass and don't stress on getting inspected. Because sooner or later you probably will.

I would say that green light part is false. Because you have zero inspections you’ll be more likely to be pulled in.
@RedForeman posted around here somewhere that because of no recent inspections they were getting the red light more. -
So, some inspections are needed in order to keep the rating score favorable.
Having said that, I am not going to volunteer for inspections at DOT scales, unless the insurance will make it a condition of some sort.Dino soar Thanks this. -
In the last year I can count on one hand how many reds I’ve received and those were either when I was near gross or when they were calling everyone in.

Back when my authority was new, a couple of times I was told, I was pulled in because my number was not that old. I generally got a clean inspection and a sticker. I am also bad about asking for an inspection and driving to the scales to get it, that way I generally get a sticker and here they will not mess with you for 90 days usually when you get it.
They run your numbers here everytime you cross the scales and know exactly when you had your last inspection, and do not mess with you for a certain amount of time anyway, sticker or not though. -
