installing a enclosed headache rack with a APU on the way

    Hi and thanks in advanced ...
    I am about to start flatbedding on a peterbilt 387 truck that has the exhaust behind the sleeper ,i do have a apu hunging from the frame and was wondering if anyone here might be using a enclosed headache rack that care to share some pics on how you when around the bolts of the apu on the frame.

    I have a enclosed headache rack from Brunners in Joplin, MO.....They direct bolt it to the frame when they install it. What kind of headache rack do you have?

    Not sure how the APU bolts get in the way of the headache rack??

    I had a problem with my air tanks being in the way of the u-bolts used to secure my headache rack but I just moved it away from the back of the sleeper a few extra inches to clear.

    fireba11, I am yet to get my headache rack, I am going/need to get it within the next few days,was hoping to get a enclosed rack but my exhaust is on the rear of the sleeper ,so more likely I am going to have to get a regular rack

    SHC , I measured the base of the rack , the beams that are going to be resting on the trucks frame, and by the way my truck's apu is mounted with two bolts over the frame as well as two on the bottom of the frame and the base beam of the rack would have to rest on top of this apu bolts therefor not sitting flat on the frame, I was thinking of putting a piece of lumber like a 4x4 between the rack's base and the frame cutting away the need opening for the apu's bolts, but still the apu itself will be on the way and I could only use 3 u-bolts to secure it ...

    OH OK, I got ya. That will make things harder then for sure but you could just notch the feet base to go over the bolts. About the only idea I have, or have the APU remounted and all 4 bolts drilled thru the frame.

    Use two all threads per two flat bars, hard to describe and have no photo of how my headache rack was and the mounting brackets.

    If you have a steel shop with a hydro punch they can make two flat bars with holes for every mount, two pieces of all thread with nuts and bolts per mount, to be safe and legal everywhere you need 4 attachment points for the rack itself.

    Turn that truck into a Grassburner. Then there will be no exhaust stack and the rack can go up tight to the sleeper. Our boss had this issue also, now every truck get this conversion before it hits the road.
