The thermocoupler and the gauge have to be compatable. You can't just hook up any thermocoupler to a gauge and expect it to work correctly. Get the gauge, and then find the correct thermocoupler for that gauge with the correct length of wiring.

Summit has the Autometer Sport-Comp for $156.97, the Sport-Comp II is $202.96. I have the sport-comp and the lighting isn't as good as the sport-comp II boost gauge I also have.

The wiring harness the gauge came with had lots of length to come up through the firewall and into the dash, I ended up looping the excess wire up with a zip tie.

You can always drill hole in exhaust and weld the right size but onto pipe

i went with the Auto meter gauge on my FLD w/series 60....drilled a small hole in exhaust and threaded the sender into the hole. then ran the wire thru the firewall thru a hole I drilled. complete instructions came with kit, no welding a bung needed

Mine was 58 bucks from KW, and that is with our automatic Alaska premium.
I think I meed another one and hope they have not gone up that much.
I also bought a genuine Kenworth gauge (isspro) new in the box off of ebay for 60 bucks.
As far as drilling and tapping the manifold. yep some folks do, but there is also the possibility that the probe burns off and goes through the turbo, the reason the manufacturer installs them post turbo. I have welded 3/8 collars to many down pipes, no need to buy a new one.
