How many miles do you have on the truck? I am wondering how long a 1999 Freightliner FLD with 800k miles will last before major problems arise.

I remember seeing on the news how Long Beach, CA was implementing stricter emission standards on big trucks. They featured a driver who's truck was around year 1985 or older. He had to trash it. Now, I don't know what you guys think about the government trashing this guy's truck, but I would say he's due for a new one! I mean the thing was probably 25 years old!

Anyways, I hear about old trucks on the road and I wonder how many miles they get out of them. If a truck is posting even 50k miles a year, your looking at 1,000,000 miles after two decades. Most new trucks get tossed by Swift after a few years or less. If a person wanted to REALLY get the most amount of miles out of their truck, what would one expect to spend for maintenance after 800k miles?

usually 1,000,000 miles is around the time u need to start considering a major overhaul theres nothing set in stone to that it all depends on how the truck was taken care of over its life span. anyone on here will tell u the best way to get the most life out of a truck is maintence. but a truck as old as urs and with already 800,000 on it. it probally be best just to get it done before it cause u to break down on the side of the road

ya well I knew one of you would bring that up.

the story I have is the truck was originally a car hauler out of southern CA. for the first nine or ten years then was sold and ran west coast to east coast for another ten years. then it was bought and moved to FL where it pulled prduce during the harvests and had a regular FL to NC run. the last few years has been it's down time with me owning it and just before that it was being used to pull an RGN for an excavator company.
the milage is an estimate I figured up from talking with the previouse owner. it could be of but I know it has over 3 million
