I would like to own my own truck someday. What would be a better or best plan?

Please do not allow this person to get to you that is his only purpose on the forum. (his momma didn't let him suckle) . Laugh at the fact that we are doing something right or else he wouldn't complain about it. If we were all SUPER TRUCKERS what would he have to complain about. I actually enjoy the fact that our determination to succeed annoys him. :yes2557: Come on BTC give it your best shot... I'll read it and laugh without response.

Personally I consider BTC a case of herpes. Annoying but you can live with it.:biggrin_25520:

I wish I knew why you phrase everything the way you do without reading further or simply asking. Your assumptions are off base and unfounded.

How about simply asking, hey Pharm, what is your break-even point?

Answer: 83 CPM at 2500 MPW, or 74.3 CPM at 3000 MPW. This is adjusted for $2.49 CPG. I routinely run 3500 MPW and exceed projections.

I don't rent my trailer from my revenue source.

I do use only one service. I cannot pull all of their freight much less have a need for freight outside of them unless it were my own. Rates do not vary significantly enough from company to company to forego the extra benefits of running dedicated, ie fuel cards, discounted factoring etc.

Direct shippers were not a short term goal, but I think a goal nonetheless for any company on their own authority. I've collected some contacts locally and will develop them over time.

You can take this to the bank... I have been around bitter unhappy people like him ever since I can into the trucking industry. I listen to their comments and consider the source. People like that can't stand anyone who has other ideas. I've seen them for years.
Thanks for taking the time to post your advice. :biggrin_25525:

I will throw this out there. I started with my own authority had some direct shippers and could still use them if i wanted. I will give an example of the biggest one i had. and remember that it is hard for a one truck operation to satisfy a small business and satisfy them selfs at the same time. I would get 3 to 4 loads a month off this one customer paid 2.75 per mile $1875 per run. So i would load out of my home town and drop on monday run around a bit with the brokers at the time was getting 2pm with them pretty easy then he would call and say ive got another load ready so I come back say on wednesday to make sure i got loaded before the end of the week then the people loading get u loaded friday afternoon @5pm and you had to hope they didnt overload u because they werent going to be back before monday mourning and the guy loading didnt give a #### because he just worked there and they werent paying the freight anyway. So lets see I lost wed,th,fr,sat, sun I could have been running for 2pm but i had to let that go to make that $1875 load 3 times a month in the end I made contacts with shippers and brokers across the country that I can call when im in the area and get above avarage rates from them most of the time none of them are 2.75pm but I dont give up running time to get them and my trucks net. way more per month. Oh yea most of the shippers I have delt with always have a hitch and u have to baby them to keep them happy and I dont kiss ### for any price. So take it for what its worth contacts weather its shippers or brokers are good to have especially when times are tough but I prefer them without comittment even if when u do use them the money is a little less. Oh yea that shipper decided to use someone else as soon as they offered to do it a little cheaper and u will find 99% of shippers and brokers are the same way. If u can reasonably improve my business plan feel free to share your advice.

You don't have to be a fan. I just don't understand your motive. Tell us a little about yourself. Are you an o/o. What do you haul. I would like to know more about you. In other words tell us something constructive or go away. You can be critical but, alitte advice or insite into your thinking would be helpful. I have been at this a long time. I am still willing to learn. Come on teach us I am waiting for something I can use other than your negative poision.
