I've always said Pete makes the sharpest looking trucks. Want a hood? 379/389 is it. Want an integrated aero truck? The 387 is the sharpest of em all (Centuries, Volvos, Mack Visions, T2000, etc.). Want an aero hood? 386 hands down looks better than the T660/600 and any 13 letter manure spreader.

However, if someone handed me the keys and title to a big ol' large car Star, I'd sure take it regardless of the sleeper!

We have 2 WesternStars. We had Freightliners in the past and I wanted something different. We looked at Kenworths,Petes, and Volvo. My dad had bought a few trucks off a sales man that he liked. Unfortunatly he was a Freightliner salesman. The sales man called my dad in 2007 and said he had a new left over 2006 WesternStar that they needed to sell. We went and looked at it. It is a little odd for your typical WesternStar. It is a 4900EX 515 detroit 10 speed 270in.w.b. 61 in Stratasphere sleeper. I was like Med.Man. I was not crazy about the fat, swollen look of an 82in. Stratasphere sleeper. This 61in.sleeper looks less fat,and swollen looking. We bought the 2006 and we have been WesternStar fans ever since. My dad's other driver drives the truck. I was driving a 2007 Freightliner at the time so I kept driving the Freightliner.
We liked the WesternStar well enough that we traded my Freightliner off for a 2007 WesternStar in Oct.2008. It was the same senerio my WesternStar was new but was a left over 2007 that did not sell. It is an odd WesternStar as well. It is a 4900FA 515 Detroit,10 speed. 40in.Strarasphere sleeper. I always liked small clean looking sleepers. I aslo do not want to spend alot of nights out on the road. I am usually out 2 or 3 nights a week.
Both of our WesternStars get 6+ MPG. in the winter months and 7+ MPG. in the summer months. We pull light automotive freight. Average load is 25000 lbs or less.
My main point here is if your boss or Dad in my case is hell bent on buying a truck off a Freightliner lot try a WesternStar. Also, If you look at new trucks buying a new left over truck from last years model can save you thousands of dollars.

I definitely think buying a new truck that is last year's model is a really good idea. What the new one has may make it worth buying to a certain driver, but in most cases is just a waste of money IMO.

Why do the trucks get better fuel mileage in the summer and worse in the winter?

I got a bill yesterday from the state of NC for the property tax on my Peterbilt for $280 and some change. It says it's for the rate year 2008.

WTF??? I just bought the truck, why am I getting this? Why wouldn't the registered owner for the time period get it??
