And so now you know... trucks get stuck REAL easy.
I been there done that. My very first solo trip was from Chicago to Atlanta. I wanted to stop and get a drink just before I-285, so I pulled off the highway where I saw a gas station'big mistake! There were chains across the driveway to prevent trucks from getting in, so I continued up the road where I was going to turn around in a motel parking lot... more chains... and so on, and so on.
A couple more miles up the road, the trees started whacking the fairing and the lanes got real skinny. Then, I saw my opportunity'a road that came up at a Y intersection. Very carefully, I backed the trailer down the side street, blind side. I proceeded to turn back to the left, to go back toward the highway... except... the trailer wouldn't make the acute angle of the corner. I said screw it and dragged it through the ditch, up and over a culvert, blowing a bunch of tires on the trailer in the process.
The best thing you can do when you think you're somewhere you shouldn't be, or somewhere you might not be able to turn around is... STOP.
Stop and assess the situation. Put your flashers on and stop right where you are. If there are cars behind you, they are likely to know what's up ahead'ask them. Stop so that you can still back out of it if you have to.
Houses and low trees lining the street without visible 13'6" truck notching are a good indication that maybe you shouldn't continue.
Even with plenty of experience though, there's sometimes you just end up some place where you shouldn't be. Here's my last Oops-I-Made-a-Wrong-Turn ordealPharmPhail and Baack Thank this. -

I know many people who've made over a million and couldn't so much as get a Sears credit card.
It ain't so much how much you make as it is how much you spend (or don't).

Man that story was rivetting! You sure know how to spin a yarn. Dude I so know EXACTLY how that feels now.
At least you just had the anxiety and worry on that run. I can't believe what a ####### I felt like sitting up in that truck with the wheels in the air trying to look nonchalant. This is how it's done folks, any questions? Move along, nothing to see here. Yeah RIGHT! Just another ####### trucker doesn't know how to turn a steering wheel in the direction you want to go...
if ONLY!lilillill Thanks this. -
