Well I finally found a flatbed, $10,799 out the door (regs,tax.etc.) Paid half cash and half on the Credit card.
Picked up my first load last Monday in fernley Nevada to Chino, ca. Still waiting on my California authority (they are slower than molasses) so I have to get freight leaving the state or go to Reno area Booked it on Friday afternoon so there was not a whole lot to choose from! Paid $1.43 mile, however I had to DH 243 miles to get to it. plus I had to spend $36.00 for a trip permit. I cant afford the CA. IRP plate cause they charge you all at once ($2200-2500), If I have the regular CA plate I can pay it monthly ($180), but I have to buy trip permits (I have an IFTA sticker). Because of my insurance limit (500 miles) I will really only be traveling to Oregon and Nevada. If I can keep the dead heading to a minimum it should be profitable. Anything is better than collecting unemployment!
Here are some photos, It was my first tarp job! took me about 2 1/2 hours, any constructive criticism is welcome!
Ill post my startup costs later.
The first photo is at the shippers plant, the second is at my parents house (they live off of CA 395) I stopped in for lunch and a shower. I had to make a bulkhead cause I have no money to buy a headache rack (yet). Delivered the next morning in chino.
CA 395 is a pretty drive but man is it hilly!
ampm wayne, Baack, Fratsit and 2 others Thank this. -
HOOWAHH!!!!!
Unbelievably awesome!!!!!!
Looks great, so where are YOU? lol
I like the lettering, is it white or metallic like the pic seems to show? Very slick font.
Hey doesn't Cali offer a T.O.P. or temporary operating permit? Wallygator talks about it but I think it's Bigfoot lol.
BTW those deadheads are pretty normal for me. That's not really outrageous if the cpm still seems ok afterward. Plus you get upwards of 10mpg deadheading... probably more with a flatbed. -
Does anyone have an official link for the NY special tax permit thingy that isn't a 3rd party site trying to rip us off for $100?? I'm told it should be well under $50 and I'm going for the first time to NY on Monday.
Thanks! -
I thought NY did away with their Highway Use Tax (HUT) permit a couple years ago. Of course, I could be wrong. I thought I was wrong once before, but I was mistaken.

Jason your truck and trailer looks great -----Good-luck to you.
Pharm I think there is an 800 # in your atlas that will help you get the permit. My dad noticed the # when I was asking him about it last night.JasonTheRock Thanks this. -
Crow did you check-out JT EXPRESS?
-
That would be nice... the OSCAR site for NY has been taken offline it seems... all indications that that was the official site. However there is no shortage of service companies still selling it right now! Could that be legal?? -
Atlas... right...
now where DID I put that thing? -
