Instrumentation Features

I would love to have all kinds of guages old school and digital. Unfortunately companies are so cheap on extras for their trucks if speedometers werent standard we prolly wouldnt have them

 

I haven't priced them lately. Last time I checked was an older model...approx $60k for the kit and 300 hours build time (and that is very conservative...not including paint and any extras)

 

The one below used to be around 38 to 40 grand but again that was a long ago

 

The GPS is a good solution for this. I was shocked how much faster I was driving than the speedometer after putting 20" rims on an Astro van last long trip. Was doing 72 when the speedo said 65.

 

Volvo has the air bag psi option on the dash, but there is so much information that you can select from that there is not enough room on the lcd screen in the newer volvo's. You can also read differental temps on the screen also. Now if you have a higher end KW or Pete that is newer you can get a gps unit in it with a 6 or 7 inch lcd screen in the dash. This also has many neat features. If it is turned on you can get average mph, distance traveled, top speed that you hit on the trip, idle time, and other good bits of information. Battery voltage for me is a big one, some newer trucks do not have that. That helps me diagnios problems while driving if something is not right. I would like a larger more visable clock instead of trying to focus on it trying to see what time I crossed a state line. If I am in heavy traffic I want to be able to see what time it is real quick.

The Petes have a gauge for the airbags on the drivers, it can be used to gauge your weight on your drivers if you pay attention to it after you weigh at a shipper, get used to how it reads you can use it to set axles before you weigh and be pretty close. i wish all trucks had this, makes it handy when you have a shipper and no scale to weigh out on, especially if the nearest scale or truck stop is 15 to 20 miles in the wrong direction you need to go.. just my thoughts.,

 

Yeah the truck I just got has a suspension load gauge for the drives and have been paying attention to it when getting loaded so I know how to set the tandems on it. Also most of our trailers have gauges on them to so I can pretty much get it perfect before I scale out which is nice.

For reefer trucks I wish there was a digital readout for the inside trailer temp.Some trucks like those danged ole freightshaker classics with the condo sleeper and cab extenders you can't see the lights or anything on the trailer.Also a reefer fuel level would be nice as well as warning lights ect.Prettymuch everything you can get from the reefer unit itself would be nice to see in the cab.All they would need is a box on the dash and a plug on the reefer to run the cable.Something else to hookup when pickin up a trailer.I think it would be worth the extra 3 seconds it takes to plug in.Would beat teh crap outta worrying about the reefer and gettin out in the snow an rain just to walk back and look at it. Also a low tire pressure indicator would be awesome.I know some cars have them and it would be nice to have on the big truck.Lose a tire on the big road and not have the CB on and you may not know it for a while.Have the light come on at like 75psi or so.Just a dummy light lol don't need 18+ little screens.unless you wanted to have 1 screen and a button to cycle thru.
