    Maybe you guys can help,

I own a car and have insurance on it. If I'm letting my girlfriend barrow it while I'm otr and she gets in a accident will this reflect on my own personal driving record any? Maybe a dumb question but I don't want anything on my records that company's would look negativity upon.

No, the ticket is assigned to the driver, not the vehicle owner. But check with your insurance to make sure you're covered in the event she gets in an accident. (since she is not family). Typically insurance would look at it as though you "authorized" her to drive your vehicle, and would pay off in the event of an at-fault accident, but there a few policies that only allow family members to drive a vehicle.

If she has a bad driving record, and does get in an accident on your policy, this may set off an "exclusion amendment" for her later in your policy. But this is just a possibility later down the road and should not worry about it right now. However, if you feel she is an "accident waiting to happen" kind of driver, you should do what you need to do to protect yourself.

When you get a chance to, type up a short "authorized to drive vehicle by vehicle owner"

your name, address, insurance policy number AND the person(s) YOU authorize to drive your vehicle.

You may need to have it notarized, maybe not, but then no one will know if she typed it up, or you.

Then keep that in the vehicle in case of accident. she can present that on demand to the responding cops, and the insurance company cannot say she was not authorized to drive with out your permission. This can save BOTH you and her from any possible legal BS later. Since she is NOT your spouse at this time.

Thank you for both responses. I'll go talk to my insurance agent later today about getting her to become a authorized driver for the car.

Really depends on the insurance carrier.......MOST of the larger personal lines insurers have policies that "follow the car"........additionally MOST also have wording in the policy to allow "permissive users" other than the named insured. What you really have to be aware of, and stay away from policies that are named driver only.
