Better yet why on earth would you file for your authority before having any ideal about insurance. Thats like financing a trailer before applying for a loan for a truck

Take the Progressive insurance. Most people don't understand that you can go out of your radius for up to 35 days per year. That means you can drive 250 miles in one direction then call Progressive and tell them you are leaving your radius. Drive anywhere you want and when you get to the 250 radius of your border, call progressive and tell them your back in. When I had them you could buy extra weeks. It's really not a bad deal.

They have underwriters that call and ask where you are on a regular basis. They also ask for your logs occasionally. Then they match up to your IFTA reporting.

Keep in mind. Each time you book a load your insurance needs to be faxed to the broker. If your on a radius restriction the insurance agents asks for the pickup and drop locations.

I'm not guessing. I lived this first hand.

Use a friend who had a clean driving record as your main driver and be a "mechanic"

And my dog has no tail. My dog is the only dog I know. Therefore, NO dogs have tails.

Ok while your insurance company might not know where you are--heaven help your heathen soul if you are OUTSIDE that specified area when something happens that requires insurance involvement--just thinking about that--well I gotta go lay down!
