So liability is separate for me. Load/Cargo insurance is $280/week. Liability I pay on my own through Progressive and it costs me $3300/year.

I also didn't mention, but I have to pay to repair the trailer from time to time. It's of course not my trailer as you can see from the $190 rental charge. They take 15% off every load. I'm new to this so this is all new to me and I am trying to learn.

What you mean by 80 or 75?

I think he means if you run on a percentage of 75% or 80% you generally only pay liability on your truck and they pay the cargo insurance.

On a higher percentage that may differ.

But you really need to get away from those guys.

That's what I figured. I am at 85%. They take 15% off every load.

Are you SURE your progressive insurance is for liability? Liability is the responsibility of the authority holder in every situation I’ve known or seen. What you have through progressive should only be for collision and maybe bobtail.

Who pays for the plates, IFTA, and such?

I think you’re confused, you paying progressive $3300 a year for bobtail and physical damage on the truck, whatever your company is charging you is for liabilty and cargo sounds fair to me,the truck is plated and ready for dispatch, not their fault you dont have a driver.
On the other hand paying for everything plus trailer rental and repair on top of the 15% cut is a bit too much but you agreed to that.
Find a parking for the truck and terminate the contract till u get another driver, never heard of spare truck insurance.

Insurance policy’s have changed, to many crooked individuals were cheating the system by switching units back and forth with the same policy. When I bought my newer truck and was gonna sell my older one, I tried to switch the policy to the newer one and said that it can only be done by showing them a bill of sale otherwise they have to add another truck to the policy, meaning I would be paying for 2 pieces of equipment. At the end, it worked out, I sold the older unit and just switch it over to the new one, with proof of the bill of sale.

Damage/bobtail is through Progressive. Not sure who they use for cargo/liability.

I pay for registration, IFTA, inspection, all that.

When you are leased on to a company, you have to play by their rules. This is common for insurance when leased to a company. Think about it... The company is paying for insurance for their trucks and trailers when they are sitting for extended periods of time, so why would it be different for you? Even if you could pause your insurance, you wouldn't be able to on the trailers you rent as you don't own them. Unfortunately this is the price of doing business....

Why would anyone lease on where they have weekly payments for insurance, trailer rent whether they run or not?
