I have two 359s insured through progressive a 81 & a 85 they have never questioned the age ...been with them for 5 years now
What I worry about is if I ever had claim they would be quick to write it as a total lose because of their age
Insurance question

@SmokinCAT is from around your area. Maybe he can chime in. He loves those “Classic” KW COE’s.

In fact I've been following the Moose Bumper thread on here .. I don't much care for the looks of them but I've had a few close calls with deer lately and seriously thinking about getting 1 because I'am sure Progressive would total the truck if I made a claim on a deer strick..Diesel Dave and ProfessionalNoticer Thank this. -

I've had many conversations with the insurance companies about what happens God forbid if the truck is totaled.
Every single solitary one basically told me it's a completely arbitrary thing that they figure market value. I said okay what is the market value today? No one could give me an answer.
So you can insure your truck for any amount that you want and they're going to give you whatever amount it is that they want.
How did they figure it? God only knows.
By the way I don't remember exactly how the coverages work but you should not carry just liability on your truck and trailer.
Like I said I can't remember but it has something to do with covering Towing the truck and trailer and if you were loaded and that load spilled covering the cost of the cleanup.
I know that I have that backward but it was something along those lines.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this. -

Progressive rep #2 and #3 stated because of the age of the equipment, any damage claim is likely to result in a total loss “because direct-fit OEM parts for both body panels and engine components are 10+ years out of production”.
They DO say they will allow a buyback in the event whatever offered sum is not satisfactory, and recommend that pathway since I restored the trucks myself. 3rd party certified Appraisal of a modified truck means nothing to them, and their internal “value guides” for trucks as old as mine is basically scrap weight. My components would fetch more individually to like LKQ than they’d pay in total.
They will also (obviously) not engage on my behalf in a non-fault incident with another drivers insurance company to boost my intake for damage or total loss, especially if also Progressive customer.

TLDR; insurance is (and always has been), a rigged game/scam. Self-bonded mega carriers are partly to blame, since they don’t have to eat the cost of insurance. Really only hurts O/O and small fleets….just axe self-insurance in totality. Then, at the gripe of the mega carriers, insurance rates (for all types) would likely plummet. Good ol supply and demand….with the mega fleets finally on level playing field. Fellas can dream of days when pigs fly high!ProfessionalNoticer and Last Call Thank this. -
