Seems like it would be worth it to buy an old expediter van at auction, running or not, just to toss liability and cargo on it for a hundred bucks a month or so. Could drop the 800-1000 a month insurance on the big boy when I take 2-3 months off.
I'm sure some of you have customers, contracts or access to broker boards that won't drop your ### as soon as your authority drops and have to go through a whole lot of BS and possibly not allowed back in at all. But I don't. So this is what I gotta do.

You don't even need the cargo coverage.

If you drop your common carrier status and change to private carrier, no insurance filing is required. With the FMCSA dropping the MC #’s, that keeps your DOT alive at no cost.

don’t know how brokers would look at it if you change back to common carrier at some later time.
