Interaction with law enforcement.

I've never had a negative encounter with a police officer. Problem with all these encounters you see on YouTube is the videos always start mid-conflict. If they don't, the situation only ever seems to escalate because it turns into a pissing contest with the officer. I've been in an actually situation of mistaken identity and I KNOW I'd have been lit up with a taser had I been a smart### with the officer. The least intelligent thing to do is to make a lone officer feel threatened at 2am on a deserted highway.

 

Dye your hair grey, get rid of the nose ring, your loop earrings and cover up the skull tats , put makeup on all your neck tats, or if winter wear a turtle neck shirt.

 

Yes sir. They were probably really busy preparing for the arrival of the US marshals. No doubt they had just been informed that they would be enroute.

 

I was crossing the scales in Cordelia CA about 03:30 on Christmas eve. Freeway was about empty I was on my way home. I got the red light told to bring paperwork and come on in. I walk in the door and say Hi he says we are doing a level 3 inspection I say sure and look around he was the only person in the huge scale house. I ask him you the only one here and he says yep. I said you must be bored huh he says yep and we laughed. He was doing my paperwork and I ask him when he gets to go home he says around 09:00. I asked him if he wanted some Christmas snack type stuff he smiled and said hell yeah. So I call the wife in the truck and asked her to bring some in. She comes in with the goodies and we sat there for an hour or so shooting the #### with him. We couldn't believe the stories he told us about the rude drivers that come in there (well actually I have no problem believing it). After that had a whole different outlook on these guys and the way they act

 

Ive been inspected far more than ive ever wanted already.

One tried to get me to slip up on my wording once when he asked me where was i when i logged sleeper birth.

Got inspected recently and failed to notify the officer i had a firearm.(Duty to inform state), told me they were gonna give me a break, but if they wanted they could pull my license for failing to let them know. I apologized several times and thanked them, and then thanked them after it was all done. Completely my fault, and ignorance was no excuse.

Long story short, i respect em all. Ive never had a bad encounter with DOT or PD that would warrant me filing a complaint or something. I know there are bad apples, i havent come across one yet thankfully.

Hell ive even had a full on mental break down and used them as therapist once and they got me a ride home.

 

Have stated here before I retired from policing after 25 years..i was always easy on truckers, gave most all of them breaks when they came through our town. We had an asst chief who had it out for them though. Truckers would stop on the side of a 4 lane state road in the emergency lane to get something at the waffle house or mcdonalds. He was always calling wanting us to run them off. I told him once they gotta eat too plus they are spending money in our town..he got pissed like he always did at me anyway and just didn't get it..he was a total ####### and finally screwed himself out of his job.

The main point is just always be nice, you will almost always be ok..there is always that one smart ### out officer out there though, we had a few, but most were professional. There are a lot more smarty pants drivers out there than officers, those are the ones that want to argue and say"no I didnt" when you tell them they ran the red light.

 

I think many forget that cops are people too. I'm not going to hate on them all because of a couple bad apples.

 

I've never understood why anyone would be an ### to a cop on the side of the road. There is never going to be a more favorable outcome.
Us older guys (yeah, look in mirror, all of you. We ain't kids anymore!) had far more interactions with the cops than the younger guys ever will, because we drove during the 55 days, when tickets were just another expense. And most of us have found a Barney or two. You let them be Barney, and cuss at him after your rolling again. Because he can sure make your day a lot worse than you can make his!

 

i can remember back in my driving school days, when our instructor said, "i don't care how much you hate cops, but tell you what, you break down on the coldest night of winter, and you're freezing to death, you ain't gonna be as happy as you will be, when that cop stops to help you out".....
