Personally I wish more companies insisted the load be legal before releasing the truck.... I have no problem with the security guard enforcing what is likely company policy.
Is it annoying? Sure, but it makes everyone's job better when no one has to fight the office just to get legal weights.

I never thought it disappeared, but I had never had a load that made such a significant impact on the drives. I rarely haul loads over 40,000 pounds so it just never gets noticed. It does make a difference how the load is distributed in the trailer of how much weight will get shifted forward on the drives when the tandems are moved. When I supervise the loading of my trailer I generally don't want more than 3,000 pounds in the nose position (reefers are heavier up there), which is why I rarely have this problem.

I hate to tell you this but you’re wrong. Every single load you pull, with the exception of say 10k pound loads, moving the trailer tandems will move a certain percentage of weight. Just because you don’t notice it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.TripleSix and gentleroger Thank this.

Wrong about what exactly? Show me where I said it didn't have an impact. Yes I didn't notice the extent of the weight change, but I never said it doesn't happen.

Generally 250 pounds per hole, with the trailers I use.
Going two holes would put the drives over, which it did for you as well.
With only 20 over I would have moved it back only one to begin with.
Calculate what you need before you slide, and you will waste less time.Last edited: Oct 9, 2019

What he was saying was that he’s hauled a lot of light loads and didn’t have to worry about it. He got this heavy load and slid the tandems two holes and was surprised by how much weight it moved. At least that’s how I read the original post.Roberts450, SteveScott and swaan Thank this.
