My company has a fleet of about 75 road trucks and 10 local drivers. Aside from a couple of accounts that are drop and hook, all loads delivering/picking up in El Paso are dropped in the yard and handed off to the local guys.
I have my dispatchers personal cell phone number for after hours issues. How many large carrier dispatchers give that out.
Our customer base allows us to pretty much get home every 6-13 days. Plus many times an overnight stay in El Paso. Last year all but one driver made it back for thanksgiving and he only stayed out because he didn't want to come back.
As for idling, they will pretty much leave you alone, unless your idle time is really high and you never get better than 5 mpg. I sleep better with the truck off anyways so unless its too hot or cold, its off.

. Drivers don't watch TV huh? I guess the truckstops and other stores that have 12 volt appliances and power inverters on the shelves are just for balast. Ahhh...., yeah right. Well actually no.
. Schneider does have a lot of terminals [OC - operating centers]. Schneider makes up their own names for stuff. Schneider does have some pretty nice terminal facilities scattered around the country though. If your choice is Schneider or Werner, I would definitely take Schneider over Werner. -
I figure if the recruiters lips are moving, he's lying
