it seems to be cyclical in other words the last 3 times it did this It was after sitting all night — not idling (apu) and it happened within the first 50 miles and it does it 3 times about 5 - 10 minutes intervals — then doesnt do it again until i sit all night and take off in the morning Lasts for about 15 seconds and then pedal has power again it seems like something is sending a signal to ecm then the ecm doesnt doesn’t know what to do so it resets or cycles then power comes back ————-Unless my new fault code spn 5298 fmi 18 has something to do with it that code has something to do with low exhaust or doc temps so maybe it is trying to regen or something and throws the ecm silly for 15 seconds and after 3 tries the ecm finally ignores it until the next day —- if that makes sense

Cleaned all battery connections
Cleaned all grounds, battery, chassis and firewall
Replaced boost sensor
Replaced trans speed sensor
Replaced 7th injector
Problem still persists but getting worse
No codes -
None of the above parts that you replaced are on the j1939 databus. I do this for a living....
gekko1323 and southbaydad Thank this. -
Thought I replied to
This but don’t see it.
Anyway I had to start somewhere
Do you have any additional thoughts.
I know you talked about the j1939 harness issue.
Can a crank sensor cause this.
Or a turbo actuator.
It’s frustrating that it doesn’t show any codes.
I got more time than money to have dealership spend 30 hours trying to figure it out -
I understand the reasoning for DIY on the repairs. That is the whole purpose for this forum. Datalink diagnosis, not repair, is arguably the most difficult problem that I face on a daily basis. You need to search here or google for "datalink" or "j1939" problems to get an idea of what I mean. Sometimes it is literally 20-30 hours of diagnosis (hunting) for rubbed or broken wire for a .30 cent connector to fix it. Your "TC" light being on is usually (not always) a telltale with a Volvo product. I am sorry, but there is no easy way to explain how or where to begin with you not understanding the way that the datalink works.
southbaydad Thanks this. -
Ya I understand what you mean.
I wish there was a way to read inactive codes which may help but I guess I’ll have to drive 140 miles to the nearest dealer but in dealing with them in the past I don’t care for them. Example they put a new 5 th wheel plate on my truck and told me they broke their 500.00 puller trying to get the pins out——. So they added that charge to my bill. Cuz I guess it was my fault they broke their tool. Guess if their 4000.00 air compressor they would say that was my fault if it broke when they were working on my truck.
So I don’t trust them. -
And also thanks for your input on this thread now and in the past

You are welcome. If I am not mistaken, there is post somewhere on the forum about a great Volvo dealer in Arizona that a respected member here raves about for their honest and good service. Search it.
southbaydad Thanks this. -
Dave in Az was the guy I posted to him and he said the Volvo dealer on 19th Ave is a very good shop.
250 miles from my house but a trip and a hotel stay might be in orderQUALITYTRUCK Thanks this.
