Its in the battery box on the t600 im buying. I know cause the starter hung up when i went to look at the truck and they had to replace it. Funny thing happen to relays and solinoids when trucks sit and batteries are not funny charged

$53 was the very best I could get for this part from KW. Perhaps a generic one is available but I ordered it anyway.
If that doesn't cure it, I will either live with it or replace the starter next. -
UPDATE:
Turns out I already HAD replaced the starter relay in July 2010.
So, that's obviously not the culprit.....Last edited: Jan 26, 2012

J.D.they call it a magnetic switch.when you turn your key to "start"position one of the small wires energizes the switch, thus closing the contact on the 2 larger wires, one of which comes directly 12v battery.the other large one goes to trigger on starter solenoid.with the key on if you touch the 2 larger wires together (with screwdriver etc.)it should start.when you are having the problem, try that.very common problem.good luck.$53 bucks not bad from dealer.

I meant to say I replaced the starter RELAY (inside the battery box area) in 2010.
Next up would be the starter and the piggyback solenoid I suppose...
-
my 2000 t600 had that problem and it was the solenoid in the battery box....my new truck will do the same thing once in a great while...im not worried about it cause i turn the key off and then start the truck....if it gets worse then ill worry about it then..

just because it was replaced in 2010 doesn't mean it's not bad. whit trucks that sit and don't get used like yours the batteries get low and these solinoids don't like low voltage. it makes the terminals arc which causes them to stick or fail

A lot of amps go through that solenoid switch, they don't always last long. Probably a good idea to ask the guy at the parts counter if there's an "Extreme Duty, or Heavy Duty" switch available.
I've got a Ford 1.5 ton and the solenoid goes bad on it often, I always replace it with the aftermarket H/D unit. NAPA might be able to help, they MIGHT be able to cross reference a part number with an aftermarket unit. -
show almost 13v...but,
My rig is started each week, in any week I dont run it.
During the last and next coming month, it also will be driven..
It was acting up before I replaced the relay in the battery box and continued doing it soon after (week or so). So I am sure that's not the issue here at all.
It didnt help nor hurt the issue I am having.
Like I said, my next thought is the starter/solenoid assembly itself or perhaps a wiring issue - but I am less inclined to think it's wiring at this point. All connections are clean and secure. -
It could be a break in the wiring, from your key switch to the solenoid. My 97 T600 was doing the exact same thing, only it got to where she wouldn't start at all !!!!
And yes, the little jumper trick will work just fine thank you very much.
This is a very aggravating thing to find cause it's intermittent. Best thing would be a continuity test on the wire, and maybe a load test if that checks out. Or run another wire alongside and run it awhile to see if that fixes it.Hanadarko Thanks this.
