I'm a company driver running cans, been with my company 18 yrs come this Nov. As someone pointed out, depending on the area, $1,000 week net is not out of line, my pay varies from week to week, I've had weeks where I've taken home $650 and I've had weeks that I've taken home $1,200. I typically work M-F, weekends are voluntary, until Christmas season when they really become "voluntary". Some days are 8 hrs, some are 14 hr, my schedule this week: Mon. 4 am to 330pm, Tues. 6:30 am to 3 pm, Weds. 4am to 430 pm, Thur. 5 am to 3:30 pm, Fri. will be 4 am to 4 pm.
If I were to be an O/O, it would be under my own authority, and find a carrier that would act as the broker and I would haul for them, hopefully using their SCAC at the ramps, ports and depots. You'll make more money to the truck, with having more responsibility. I can tell you in my area, the intermodal carriers run the gamut from lease operators making a payment to the carrier, operating under the carriers insurance and everything else, to O/O with their own authority, and the carrier acting as a broker and allowing the driver to use their SCAC code.
Intermodal company drivers?
